Valdutani NarthuTigar'ri

 Death from Above

The Valdutani Nharthu-Tigar'ri - An elite unit of Parisan warriors. Includes the sons and daughters of most major Valdutani houses. The Nharthu-Tigar'ri (Translates to Unbreakable Guard) was the first unified military unit to be formed by the Valdutani Royal line.

With their ranks filled with the Parisan's best warriors, and armed with the best equipment that Valdutan can forge, the NarthuTigar'ri established themselves as one of the most reknown military units in Sazashi history.

The NarthuTigar'ri are most known for their use of Meissner Antigravity tech to give themselves vertical mobility even while wearing heavy plate armor and tower shields.

Without fear, without pain.

The strength of our hearts and our hearths hold our shields strong.

We will stand above all until the Wheel stops turning.

Tactics

The NarthuTigar'ri has developed its arsenal and its tactics through millenia of combat experience. While the materials, technology, and doctrines have evolved, it all traces it roots back to the first NarthuTigar'ri formation that was born with the nation of Valdutan.

The NarthuTigar'ri is a professional military unit, with it's own command and supply structure.

Even in times of peace, the NarthuTigar'ri prepares for war.

 Vertical Envelopment

NarthuTigar'ri doctrine puts emphasis on using power armor and antigravity technology to divide and outflank enemy lines.

This will often work by 'quarantining' an enemy unit, distracting their lines with a frontal advance and then using the distraction to jump over and surround the enemy.

The maneuvering can be done either from the air, or on the ground via kinetic boosters and meissner engines.

Watching those massive chunks of metal hurtle at us like jets, it was terrifying in itself. They crushed into our defenses like car-sized cannon balls, pummeling through steel and flesh alike.

Then they stood up as warriors. Eight feet tall— swords large as us and shields thick as bulkheads.

Winnipeg was lost, our last lines brutalized by this new super unit.

- An excerpt of a Winnipeg survivor
 Armored Spearhead

The weaponry and armor of the Parisan have always been the best of the Pact. The NarthuTigar'ri when faced with an offensive fight, will serve as a spearhead for surrounding units.

Using their high mobility, they will make quick leaping advances into enemy lines, with the purpose of overwhelming and splitting defenses. Once cleared, friendly units will move in to secure and hold the area so the NarthuTigar'ri can continue their advance.

These hopping advances come with plenty of risk, as an unsuccessful offense can leave NarthuTigar'ri units stranded behind enemy lines.

"We are the NarthuTigar'ri. Our dream is to be behind enemy lines, back to back with your shieldmate, fighting through wave of after wave of increasingly desperate assaults."

— Narthu-Tigar'ri Specialist

Modern Times

With the combined military reorganization of the Pact, the Narthu-Tigar'ri are called in to battle to break through strongholds to open the way for other Pact nations to advance.

Arsenal

 Raiment

The standard for NarthuTigar'ri raiments is second to none in the universe. The highest grade technology, the purest metal, and sturdiest components combine to make an unstoppable force.

The NarthuTigar'ri armor is perfect for defense and offense, and are capable of working in all weather conditions. They are also rated for use underwater and in zero-g enviroments.

Family Heraldry

Valdutan has always been a nation with an emphasis on family line. Each warrior who enters the NarthuTigar'ri are expected to bring thier own family armor.

This armor can come in a variety of designs, but retain the same technology. Armor color and family symbols match the family lines colors. Holographics can be used to further bring ties to a families roots.

Note: While Families are expected to contribute the base armor and plating, all incoming raiments are inspected, updated, and approved by the Valdutan Armorer's Guild to allow centralization of supplies.

I marveled the first time I got to wear the family raiment. It felt so right.

The muscle sheathe fit me like a second coat of fur and the red and gold polished plate of the Helmshigh family looked damn good on me.

Armaments

 The Shield

The shield is not only the symbol of Valdutani strength, but it is the primary armament of all NarthuTigar'ri. While the materials and technology behind the shields have evolved over the centuries, their usage and effectiveness has not wavered.

NarthuTigar'ri Shields are family heirlooms that have been updated over centuries of use. It is not uncommon for new recruits to come to train with the shield their grandparents used. Updates to modernize shields can be done by the armorer's division located within the Academy of Strength.

Tigari'ri Shields are plated to withstand energy and physical attacks, and are capable of deploying to be used as mobile cover. Modern shields will come with their own temporary gravity field in order to slow or break apart armor-piercing payloads.

The greatest dishonor a NarthuTigar'ri can do is lose their shield in battle.

To do such is to lose your very identity.

— NarthuTigar'ri Advice

The Parisan have an old mantra. "You are only as good as the shield you bear."

These Tigari wield the best shields in the universe, so what does that say about them?

Other Weapons of the NarthuTigar'ri

Swords

Full-length blades are common weapons for the NarthuTigar'ri, while they are already formidable weapons with immaculate construction, most blades are enhanced with Meta to allow the user to cast power spells in combat.

Spears

Only second to swords, Spears are popular with the northern families who make their homes in the Faur'ridar'ru mountains. Like their swords, they are enchanted to utilize meta spells.

Kinetic Slings

A universal piece of equipment, the Kinetic Sling is capable of slinging a plethora of equipment at high speeds. Often used for grappling, movement, or picking off opposition with lethal ordinance.

Tail Maces

Another universal piece of equipment is the reinforced mace mounted on the tail of NarthuTigar'ri armor. These blunt instruments when combined with the strength and momentum of a Parisan's tail can dent through strong steel plate.

Life in the NarthuTigar'ri

Recruitment

To be chosen to join the NarthuTigar'ri is one of the greatest honors a Parisan can acheive.

To be considered, one must have shown combat ability, survival instinct, and have acted in good faith based on Valdutani law numerous times.

Most Parisan chosen have extensive military service already, either through the Valdutani military, or the Jhoutigari.

Upon acceptance of the offer, the family will throw a festival in honor of the enlistee and if needed will go through the process of acquiring a set of family NarthuTigar'ri raiment.

The cost of the enlistee's armor is shared amongst the family members.

Training

New recruits into the NarthuTigar'ri will enter an apprenticeship with a veteran fighter stationed at one of Valdutan's military bases. Veterans will volunteer to take on apprentices and are allowed to choose who they train.

During this period, the new recruit will travel to the same deployment of the Veteran. It is then the veterans responsibility to harden and train their appretince.

This training, in times of peace, involves games of Bridge Run, mock battles, studying, and armorsmithing. In times of war, training includes fighting in the back line and supporting those holding and pushing the front.

Renowned Battles

Siege of Yak'koli

Fought during the age of Valuser'ran Supremacy, the Siege of Yak'koli lasted two weeks. Valdutan forces under the command of the Grandmaster of Light broke through the defenses of the city state and opened the way for Valuser'ran occupation.

This conflict marked the end of the Yak'koli rebellion for independence.

The Ransack of Winnipeg

Volunteer Divisions of NharthuTigar'ri broke through a final line of human defenses in North America during the The Advent War. Despite relentless drone strikes and anti-armor measures, they pushed through and helped break out Manul Tjerto and his isolated forces. The battle of Winnipeg was a rout and a slaughter for Humanity between the NharthuTigar'ri and Manul's divisons.

The sheer brutality documented by the survivors of the battle has caused the Winnipeg ransack to be mostly forgotten by the Parisan but well remembered by many humans even in the Banner Era.

The Twisted Dagger War

A surprise offensive that threatened to collapse Valdutan's southern border. The Twisted Dagger consisted of frontal assault by the militarized Idsartans and a brutal guerrilla warfare campaign waged by the Malisyk Cult.

Despite the surprise offensive and the sabotague and assassinations by the Malisyk, the NarthuTigar'ri held the southern border for several months, allowing the Blood Snow Offensive to succeed in the north.

They sound absolutely terrifying to face in battle. Even without their power armour they look intimidating! I love that you've included notable battles as well as their usual tactics, and I really like that quote from a survivor.

Wow, such an amazing and extensive article on a topic that I have absolutely no idea of (and also pretty much no interest in). And so easy written that even someone like me can understand it with ease. I also like the style of your world.

Why thank you Leijona! It's not my usual article, but considering the amount of fighting that takes place in Ethnis, I feel like it was a good time to flesh out some of the alien military units!   I'm glad you enjoyed, and I'm glad you like the style!

Why thank you Hallucigenia! I wouldn't want to face them that's for sure. But the Pact has a lot more than just these guys! Plenty to work on!

Great article! I'm a huge fan of the layout of this article. Makes it easy to scan and read about the many interesting details! I especially love the drawing of the fighter, and the ribbons are a great touch!   You've added so many cool and interesting features! But I would also love to learn about the more mundane part of these fierce fighters. What fun do they have, what embarrassments did they experience?

Hey! Thank you so much! I really enjoyed playing with the assets I had and making them fit in with the worldbuilding here.   Exploring more in their mundane life would be great. I'll have to think on it! Thank you for the comment.
