WIP Quote
"Ships like The Jupiter Message are as rare as Salamander Claws, so I guess it's fitting that the captain of the ship, Riss Modi, does indeed possess a set of Salamander Claws! Hah! Isn't that something?
"Oh, you don't know what Salamander Claws are? My mistake, I guess that's one of those idioms that doesn't exist outside of the Federation.
"Salamander Claws are, by most accounts, one of the most dangerous weapons in Ethnis, at least if we are counting the sheer exciting variety of ways in which you can screw up and hurt yourself with them.
"But God, are they cool and stylish. To even be able to use them, you need to be able to sustain about, oh, 16 Shae of Meta per minute"
"Leave those running and they'll suck up all the local meta and then some. Not that I can use the meta. If only. So that's one way they can screw you up. Another is, well, what they do.
"They're claws, see. Plasma claws. Turn them off and on as you wish for a beam of hot plasma shooting from your fingertips. Some folks recreate it with miniature gas lines, beautiful work but nothing like the real thing.
"They're built by the welders and scrappers who do all the building, repair, and scuttling for the federation. Well. That's half true. Homages are built to them by most welders, but they really only count as Salamander Claws if they generate proper plasma claws.
"Riss got his start working in the scrap yards. Real whizz kid at it, too. Call the Federation what you want but we know how to squeeze every last rattle and rivet out of our machines. That boy grew up picking apart everything and putting it back together and getting promoted into increasingly complex lines until he was working on ships. First planetside and then in the docks. He started making a lot of money, more money than he knew what to do with, so he started making what every welder wants to make: Salamander Claws. He started making his own Ship. He started making the Jupiter Message.
