Jhoutai's surface is a constant overgrowth of Jhoutaioan Coral building layers upon itself like bark. As the deeper layers of the coral fossilize and solidify, the become more prone to fractures and collapses. Often, the biomatter spanning the interior of the corallums is enough to absorb and repair the damage, but sometimes the damage adds up to disaster.
Historic Quakes
Hell's Cauldron
After the atom-splitting spell cast by the Grandmaster of Light on Sarag'gu, the capitol of Khatoum, the coral collapsed all the way down to sea level with such force that the collapse continued eroding outwards for months until it could be contained by Masons building a subterranean wall to enclose it. The massive basin left in its wake was submerged in snaking methane fire for nearly 100 years before efforts were made to clean it up enough to resore a semblance of balance to the ecosystem.
Yakkoli's Ventricle Fracture
The outer wall of the Yak'koli Ventricle, once full of archways to let the light into the ventricle, was cemented into a massive dam wall as millenia of strain threatened to bring the entire wall crashing inwards into the city, cutting off north-south abyssal trade and threatening the lives of tens of millions.
Prevention
A sprawling network of seismic trackers along the routes of the underground allows for up to date readings on what might be happening in the underground and wwhat easures need to be taken to prevent any issues.
Tactical placement of certain breeds of flora allows for gaps and cracks to be filled in and sealed in a load-bearing way. It's common for underside botanists to spend most of their time focused on this.
When all else fails, one must hire a Mason to do the job. These powerful spellcasters are not easily obtained, but can shape the underground's architecture in
