Overview

The story of the two founders of Etheria has been long known, The Engineer rebuilt society's infrastructure while The Alchemist saw to the restoration of nature and study of medicine and non-mechanical sciences. Working together, they founded the city of Sanctuary which quickly found itself under seige by bandits and swarmed by refugees who were desperately in need of resources. At the height of the growing conflict between the citizens of Sanctuary and the remnants of humanity outsode its walls, The Alchemist suggested one last attempt at peace to end the conflict. The result of these talks between The Founders and the five chosen representatives of the outer lands who participated was a uniting of many outer territories and Sanctuary to form the country of Etheria. Within the structure of this new country was a complex political agreement meant to maintain peace between the outer lands and the last city of humanity. Any territories on the continent that so choose may become a protectorate of Sancturay, with it getting an elected representative to report needs for resources and facilitate trade with the city. The idea behind the arrangement being that the territories aligned with the treaty support Sanctuary and vice versa. All representatives of the territories plus two representatives from the city (known as The Consulate) meet regularly to make larger decisions regarding the governing of Etheria and are permitted to spend the rest of the time in their respective territories or the city. This charter was worked on by all parties but is well known to have benn authored primarily by The Alchemist herself.

The Engineer, ever-prideful and wanting to always have the most lasting impact possible, was always quick to take credit for his accomplishments (and those of others if he contributed in some way). However he was always adamant to give credit where it was due on the charter. He always spoke of how it was a creation of The Alchemist and insisted he never had the mind for such philosophical endeavors. However there has been a recent rumor brewing within the Alchemical Temples that this is only a partial truth and in reality the charter was not written by The Alchemist at all. Not only does it fail to match some of her writings at the time in terms of style, but furthermore she was never known to have an interest in philosophy anytime prior to Etheria's founding.
