Hell

"As I am the bleak shadow that drowns the light of hope, so too shall be my throne. A black pit that consumes and twists all that falls into it. So shall it be, forevermore." -Proclamation of Arc' Ven

Before the begining, Arc' Ven created Hell. Hell then was much simpler than it is now. Then, there were no Shadow Spawn. No Nightmares. No Hordes. No Devils or Fires. There were the Thrones of Ythima, Synax, and Arc' Ven.   Ythima's Domain was a place of turmoil. Primordial forces toiled and churned and clashed. Where forces of Heaven could come to prove their strength against his agents in fair tournament, and where mortals could receive blessing from the Dark Lord should they triumph.   Synax ruled a silent realm, where horror and suffering dwelt. Where the will of thousands were tested against unknowable visions and agonies. Where his agents would break the unworthy, and pull them into the deep dark. Angels tested their courage against the three agents of strife, and mortals wagered their soul to Synax for a chance for his power.   Arc' Ven had no domain, but a singular throne in the center of a floor made of liquid evil that marked the deepest pits of Hell. Where ancient and inconsequential forces communed with the Black God. Angels would bring him tribute, and mortals would beseech him for his voice.   Then, after the Great Fall, Hell was divided into provinces, ruled by the seven Sinlords, and overseen by the Emperor of Woe. Fires burnt upon stone and ash and flesh alike. Hellspawn clamored for what little power they could procure. Fallen Lords, Infernal Monsters, and Lost Souls all wandered the endless dominions of the Blind World.   After the End, the Darkness returned to their home. With the Dark Lords gone, Arrata ascended to the role of Dark Lord, and became the sole ruler of Hell. The Hordes and Shadows of Will all formed cities and hunting grounds. Hell was closed to reality, although arc' Tor frequently visits.

Geography

Before the Beginning

Prior to the Great Fall, Hell was an incorporeal sea of darkness. Tangible, thick evil concealed the depths of a bottomless pit. This ocean went on forever, and unless you willed that you find the bottom you would fall into it forever. In that empty, dark sea there were no entities or forms of existences. Solitude and silence were the only ideals. This was oft referred to as the Depths of Sorrow.   When one would find themselves in the domain of Ythima, they were subject to a harsh landscape; random holes and fissures in the rocky and jagged ground led to a raging storm of chaotic entropy below. Powerful winds blasted through the Dominator's Canyon, as it came to be called, and Kaaos Lightening struck randomly and with force from the storm above. While it was called a Canyon, it was shaped more like a bowl, with mountains of jagged blades lining the edges. And a giant black tower in the center called Vern' Octos.   Synax was a being of simplicity and horror. His domain is isolated into a world he called Shayraam' Anuk. Inside, the only sight was above you, to Synax in a large orb of pure consciousness. The paths to him branched at regular intervals, and two paths appeared. Each path represents a different line of thought, and a new torment on the path to the center. Here, the Aspects of Strife would manifest horrors and agonies from the corners of one's own mind. If there is a lack of material to work with, these nightmares would use their own experiences and memories.   Arc' Ven lies at the metaphorical bottom of the pit. His domain is simple. The black smoke that blinds those within the Depths, and the Domain of Synax, is gone. There is but a singular large throne in the center where the Omnipotent Lord of Darkness resides, seemingly watching everything from an omniscient perspective.

After the Great Fall

There were only three ways into Hell after the great fall. One, you could descend into a Hellmouth. Two, a native could have drag you down into one of the domains. Three, your Soul could be Cursed Unto Damnation. The Hellmouth in Heaven leads down to the very top of Hell, a land of ice and glaciers gloomily lit by an eternally overcast sky. A singular large gaping hole in the ice leads down into Hell proper.   Past the Wastelands are a massive network of caves, ice cold and stagnant, called Limbo. Lost Souls would roam here if they are denied entry into the depths. Past this point the caves open up into a massive ocean of fire. This ocean seemed to flow in a single direction endlessly. It was called the Acheron, and it was filled with jagged spears of rock and ruined monuments to the darkness. One could theoretically find their way across by riding a beast through the river, though if they should fall they are left to the mercy of the molten current.   Past the Acheron, if one could find an exit, is a drop into the first pit of the Infernal Hell. Ruled by the Sinlord of Lust Asmodaal, this domain is home to the Queen of Perversions, and her infinite children. Her Incubi and Succubi and other classes of Vampiric demons reside in spires made from the writhing bodies of those tormented here, stitched together into monuments and complexes then wrapped in wrought iron. Asmodaal herself ruled from the Violet keep in the domain's center. Spread across the ground are holes that lead into a large open chasm that billows with violent winds and rain of edged glass. Those flamboyant enough to belong in the domain of Asmodeus are swept up by the hurricane and thrashed about for all eternity. This domain is lovingly referred to as "The Scream". Those who do not belong will sink, and fall into a river of black muck. From here there are two paths one could take. Forward into the gilded dominion of Mammon, or the suffocating depths of Leviathan's Sea.   The Second Pit of Hell is past a forest of bones. The overlapping rib cages of primordial beasts that once fought for dominance now forms the "Leviathan's Hollow". The black ooze that comprises the river behind the forest seeps into the ground here like a marshland. A foul smelling fog hangs over this forest, carrying with it an echo of the moans of the next domain. Past the forest is a cliff face with a large ivory door, behind which is a place referred to as the Gilded Catacombs. The damned here are kept entombed in gold, crying golden tears into a golden reservoir that runs beneath the whole of these halls. Enslaved workers, demonic beasts of burden, and their taskmasters toil here forever; working to turn the sea of glimmering wealth into ornaments, coins, bricks, or even monuments of pure gold. The ruler of this gilded place resided in a grand vault in the deepest corner of the Catacombs; Mammon, Prince of Greed and Lord of Wealth.   Past this is yet another drop, the infinite lake of gold pouring out over a great expanse; the bottom of which is yet another massive golden lake. The lake here lies in the middle of an island amid a vast ocean of muck. This expanse belongs to Leviathan, a massive demon who lurks beneath the suffocating ooze along with other titanic creatures. It flows, though very slowly, into a pit in the distance. After a certain depth, you begin to get pulled deeper by tidal forces. Dragging you into a scalding torrent of blood moving at incredible speed. This blood takes you from the Styx River, into the Phlegethon.   The River Phlegethon, ruled by the Sinlord of Rage Uriel, is a river of churning, boiling blood. It surged as a rapid, dragging the burning souls of the violent damned lost within along with it. It filled out into a split in the river that forms an island. As it rushed against the shores of this isle and moved around it, Uriel ruled from atop the Pillar of Violence, her citadel on the islands center. Many demons renowned for violence and combat reside here with Uriel as their Queen.   Surrounding the river are cliff walls, dotted with a hive-like network of caves and corridors belonging to Belphegor. These tunnels loop in on themselves, and go nowhere at times. Though there is a trick to navigating these tunnels, all paths will eventually lead to Belphegor's Chamber. Past his chamber, where typically one does not meet any resistance, is a tunnel into a realm seemingly made of flesh and acids. Here, large worms feast on the souls of the damned, and the rest burned in the gastric acid that surrounded them.   This domain, often called the Gulch, is property of Beelzebub, Lord of Gluttony and Excess. The scent of rotting meat fills the putrid air, and the slippery ground gives way into lakes of flesh melting acid. Large, grotesque faces line the walls, their eyes glossy and their mouths spewing acid and bile into the lakes below. Demons, voracious and sadistic, roam the grounds for anything that they can consume. Past this lair is the second deepest pit in hell.   The Trials of Lucifer are a series of twelve chambers where massive, insurmountable beasts are kept, and the damned are promised that if they can fell the beast they can move onto the next chamber. However, if they fail, they get sent back to the beginning. This domain is owned by the Sinlord of Wrath, Lucifer. Yet Lucifer does not reside here, he resides at the bottom of the twelfth trial which leads into a massive Frozen sea. At the bottom of the ancient ice is the primal throne of Arc' Ven. High above it on top of the freezing waters is a magnificent palace, where Satan rules over all of Hell. Lucifer resides there with him. The frozen sea and the glaciers around it are referred to as the Depths and Shores of Cocytus.

After the End

Arrata simplified Hell after the end. The Pits were for the most part abandoned before Arrata filled them with the same black gas that formed the foundation for the first Hell. Everything left within, the lost souls, and mighty infernal beasts drowned in the mire. It became known as the Well of Silence, and the beings called Shayharim, the Unspoken, and Emissaries of Silence took up residence within. The Dread Lords were given authority to construct their own palaces beneath the Shadow of Arrata's Citadel in the cold expanse. From there the Shadows of Mindfulness would choose a palace to reside in. The Shadows without thought began to roam mindlessly around the citadels. fighting each other in an eternal free-for-all.
