Dirivon Oasis

Dirivon Oasis is the only miren city in the Teardrop Sea Islands. It is located in the Dirivon Desert, which makes it unique among miren settlements for another reason; mirens are semiaquatic, their natural habitat being marshland, and rarely stray far from large bodies of water. The city began as an artificial body of water and from there developed into a settlement.   How old the city is, nobody is sure, as surviving records only go as far back as the Age of Renewal. Historians have long scratched their heads how and why the mirens who founded the city took the time to dig a lake and build a settlement around it, instead of leaving the desert for a more favourable climate, when--unless there were about a hundred thousand of them--they could never have survived long enough to create what they needed, and it would have been far quicker to move on. Many myths attempt to explain this historical anomaly.   The mystery, and mystical tales about the place, adds to its allure. It's a popular tourist spot, but only mirens actually live there, and most neighbourhoods and swimming spots are off-limits to visitors except invited guests. The number of tourists allowed in the city is also limited and nobody can get in without pre-booking. There is a waitlist during peak seasons.   The city is known for its beautiful and innovative architecture and engineering, unique cuisine which blends typical miren practises with regional ingredients, and the unusual culture that has blossomed within its walls. Canals stretching out from the city almost as old as the oasis itself provide transport for miren who wish to cross the desert, and it's common for tourists to arrive by boat.
