Plague / Epidemic
A plague that caused the deaths of thousands of Droukar citizens and also one of its rulers.
In the year 259, the Kingdom was the victim of a terrible plague. The origins of Deathbell are unknown. Some say it came from the west, others from Stroy and even some believe it was a curse placed upon them by the Goddess Zelnes. Regardless of its origin, it was felt throughout the entire Kingdom as hundreds of thousands died. The symptoms were always the same. Coughing is the first sign, followed by dizzy spells and exhaustion. The final stage of the sickness takes the visions senses away from them. The last thing they hear is the sound of their own heart slowly beating. This is where the name Deathbell comes from. Many victims are reported to plead for the bells to stop before they die. Joprona was hit the hardest by this plague. They even lost an entire city to the plague, naming this tragedy the Silent Horses Ride. It wasn't until King Adam Redfirth died did the government become desperate. The new and first ruling Queen Abigail Redfirth took her brother's place as a leading monarch seeing as his only living heir was at the ripe old age of three. She pressed for a cure to the illness stating "Our Kingdom slew dragons, we will not fall to sickness and fade away in history." She then turned towards the Frogwood. Believed to be a cursed swamp full of hags and demons many avoided it but some scholars claim that a great deal of medicine can be found there. She ordered a team of doctors, healers, clerics, and soldiers to enter the Frogwood and return with a cure. To make a long story short that is exactly what they did and at the same time, they found something else. Tribes of Firbolgs and Lizardfolk seemed to live in these woods. This was unexpected as nobody had seen any signs of intelligent life in the wood. Better yet the Firbolgs had a great understanding of medicine and how to use the plant life of the Frogwood to heal. They made for a great ally during this time of plague. Shortly after Deathbell was declared cured in the year 265 the Frogwood was declared a territory of Droukar and given the name Adalan. Leaders were chosen to represent the Region and they have lived in harmony ever since. More diseases have popped up in Droukar since then but none as severe as Deathbell. Many believe it is all because of Adalan. Droukar's protector against disease.
