Inzawyèm (ˈinzɔjɛm)

Inzawyèm is the collective name for the dwarven clans of Tar'Thor. Literally translated as "Iron Kin," the Inzawyèm are in a sense the nobility of Tar'Thor, charged with the defense of the city, the management of major guilds as well as choosing the succession of kings. Because of these important responsibilities, the qualification to be considered part of the Inzawyèm is strictly defined in old Tar'Thorian law.

In great and dire need, duty call forth those who
I. have been sired, grandsired and great-grandsired and forged beneath the mountain
II. are struck of purely refined dwarven blood
III. have established their kin in the halls of Tar'Thor
IIII. are the helm of their kin, the knife-tip of their clan

To be incredibly specific, the Inzawyèm actually only include the heads of clans, who have established families within Tar'Thor, were born to at least 3 generations of dwarves under Tar'Thor and who are of pure dwarven bloodlines. These requirements are expected to be met at birth, otherwise the only hope for inclusion in the Inzawyèm comes with the next generation of the clan. Generally speaking though, even though only the heads of each clan qualify for the political duties, the status is extended to the entire clan.

Beyond their political duties, the Inzawyèm does rather little as a collective, with clans preferring to work independently and letting the king and the king's appointed handle matters of the city as a whole. A gathering of the Inzawyèm is typically a somber event, either following the death of the king to choose a successor or due to a great threat to Tar'Thor such as war.
