Vermillion Flower

Botanist Findings:

Occurring as a white flower in its adolescent stage, and then maturing to a bright red, the Vermillion Flower is often mistaken for a Day Lilly by those who are unaware of the subtle difference. It is for this reason that even though the Vermillion possesses many health benefits it is rarely collected. As Day Lillies and Vermillion Flowers grow in the same habitat and climate and the Day Lilly is toxic to most humanoids.

Horticultural Findings:

Native to the central and tropical regions of Epsen the Vermillius Hibiscus Botanicalis (Vermillon Flower) produces a large bright red flower in addition to hearty tea leaves. The flowers themselves grow in groves making harvesting both the petals incredibly easy (if you're in the right place at the right time). Blooming only in the autumn months, the Vermillion Flower is a naturally invasive species that can create floral blooms in other plant species and trees. This has led to wide swaths of the tropical and subtropics being coated in various shades of red for nearly a month of the year.

Herbology

The tea leaves are often harvested by Elves for ceremonies while the flowers are gathered by Humans and Dwarves for their fragrance in incense and perfumes. While wild Vermillion Trees are plentiful in some areas, there has only been one successful attempt to grow domesticated Vermillion in the Vermillion Flats. Through generations of flower breeding, the population has managed to successfully breed incredibly potent and vermillion with over 23 different variants of the naturally occuring reddened plant.
