The Refuge at Zu'Nal
History & Lore
Considered a blight on the Dwarven lands the Refuge at Zu'Nal stands as a stark reminder of the religious divides between humans and Dwarves. Bantam Zu'Nal, a devout monk and Marked Zealot who was to be recruited to be commissioned as a militant ordinariate as a Golden Eagle. A fanatic whose dedication only knows violence. Seeking to lead his people to a less violent outcome Bantam not only sought to break away from the violent past humans and Marked Zealots have cut through Espen. Bantam refused his commission and sought asylum in the mountains to the west of Nin. Venturing high into the mountains to meditate and seek counsel from Valkur, Bantam's show of non-violent resistance inspired many to follow his example. Abandoning their homes, families, and inheritance to journey into the mountains, living simply and purely as close to the sky as possible. As his following grew many felt such devotion to the faith should be commemorated. Scribes began flocking to hear the Zu'Nals Articulations, many began trekking up the mountain with supplies and building materials; literally constructing a refuge for those who made the pilgrimage to hear Zu'Nal speak or read scrolls of his past articulations. Eventually, the Refuge became a permanent fixture on the mountain with very few Dwarves even noticing that nearly without trying a religious revolutionary had made Nin his surrogate home. Following Bantam Zu'nal's death, 'The 12 Articulations of Zu'Nal' became mandatory reading for religious scholars and today still remains a touchstone for many Marked Zealots.Marked Bishop
Vetor Suffragan, the current Marked Bishop has taken great pains to ensure the sanctity of the Refuge, despite current dwarven disposition toward the increase human presence in Nin, Vetor has strived to live up to the example of Bantam, welcoming all that desire to learn ad Bantam Zu'Nal did.
