Botanist Findings:
Known for its impressive healing properties Fireseed is derived from the fireberry, which grows on the vents of volcanic fissures. The plant is one of the most sought-after in Espen behind only the Alta flower. The oil is said to have powerful restorative properties, able to heal burns, scalds, and even prevent burns in some cases.
However, if not cured properly the oil is also said to ignite easily. If left uncured when the oil is exposed to air, it ignites and creates a bright light similar to that of a torch. It can be used to light torches or start fires, and it is particularly useful for adventurers who find themselves in dark or damp environments. However, once the oil is ignited, it quickly burns out and becomes useless, making it a limited resource. While this has proven useful to some adventurers it's proven deadly to many more. Its light and volatile nature make it easily transported if treated with care.
Horticultural Findings:
Only blooming during the hotter months the Fireseed Berry is not easy to find. Usually within the danger zone of geothermal fissures, heat, sulfur, and of course lava make obtaining a clutch of these berries a very lucrative endeavor (provided one does not die first). If one can get to a location where they are growing, one will have to hope for rain, as harvesting the berries while not raining or just after rainfall can cause them to ignite when harvested.
Herbalism Findings:
Curing the berries takes a week and must be done in a glass or crystal vial with oil. After cured, soak the berries in a waterskin for 1 day. The potion will taste of cinnamon and have a bitter nose if properly brewed, and will have a sweet taste and sour nose if brewed incorrectly. When the conditions are right Fireseed Berry is very prevalent in Dwarven territory and on the
Isle of Sky .
