Bar-Bar's Bridge

Ownership

The Boggs family is one of the more close-knit groups in Nattan Mal. Their bridge is a marvel of engineering, its central bathhouse raises into the sky at the center of the bridge which spans nearly two miles connecting the two major landmasses of Nattan Mal. Constructed by Bar-Bar Boggs as an answer to a problem. With every other family profiting from their inherent skills or gifts how could he make a profit with the most undesirable and resource-poor land in Nattan Mal.

History & Lore

He initially started a ferry service that served roughly 300 goblins a year, being an insular group that doesn't travel much, most of his revenue came from ferrying resources and food for trade. It wasn't until the Humans started trading in the western regions of Nattan Mal that Bar-Bar understood what he needed to do to make a real profit. Thus he would become a gatekeeper, but first, he needed a gate. He hired out the majority of the Bogg's family tree to work on the bridge by the day and the Quartermanes to work on the bridge at night. They completed the work in just under a year and enacted the first toll the day it was complete. Since that day access to the bridge has been unlimited, anyone who wants on is welcome, but you have to pay to get off.  The bridge has also become the highlight of B-Street and brought both wanted and unwanted attention to the region.   The water under the bridge is constantly patrolled by the Boggs, as avoidance of the toll through jumping from the bridge became commonplace. Of course, if the Boggs' caught an individual seeking to avoid paying the toll, that individual was jailed and the toll doubled. Under this situation, the population of the bridge quickly swelled and became its own debt-based, bartering ecosystem. While gold is still used for the toll to get off the bridge you'll find very few goblins in possession of it or accepting it as payment, on the bridge.
