Bellow Bog

The coastal bellow bog is a unique and varied ecosystem. Near the shore are dense mangrove forests. These forests help reduce the impact of the sea on the wetlands further inland. These forests are dry only during low tides. When the muddy forest floor is revealed birds and other animals emerge from the surrounding swamps to feed on the critters living in this mud. The dense mangroves also limit large predators ability to attack these grazers creating a temporary but lush safe heaven. When the tides rise however the area takes on a whole new ecosystem. Various fish and other sea life flow into the area with the tides. The rising water making more space for predators like salt water crocodiles to patrol the area, snacking on anything they can get their jaws around. The people of this area both rely on and struggle against the imposing sea, Fishing it's fertile waters and struggling to stay above them. However the ever present changes in water levels have forced the people who call these forests home to adapt in amazing and creative ways.     Further inland are the coastal swamps of the bellow bog. While the tides do still have pull here it is not as dramatic as the forests of the coast. The land here is permanently sodden and the dense canopy of the swamp reduces the amount of daylight that reaches the land drastically.  This allows for strange plants and Animals to thrive. Like mushrooms lichen and a multitude of other fungus to coat the ground. What few patches there are. The difficulty of existence here is seen in the plants and animals of the region. Growing strange and fierce under the influence of the magic of the realm.
