Letters to Loosha

Great Light Goddess Loosha -

Hello, this is Komi. I understand that you have been searching for me, although I am extremely unclear as to why. I maintain my insistence that I am, at the end of the day, merely a lab assistant. However, it would appear many strange happenings have occurred lately, so maybe this is just the new normal.

I am uncertain what is so important and urgent that an entire search party was sent for me - ordinarily I try to mind my own business, but when you think about it, an entire task force dedicated to tracking down and bringing me to you (with or against my will) would sort of be my business, wouldn't it? Right? Lately I've just had so many questions, and it sounds like maybe you do too?

Unfortunately, in my short period of time traveling, I have quickly learned that not everyone, god or otherwise, should be trusted, and their word should not necessarily be taken at face value. The world has grown more scary and uncertain than I originally understood. So I do hope you will understand my resistance to being taken directly to your court. Perhaps we could be penpals for the time being? I would love to earn your trust, and in return, perhaps you could also earn mine.

Furthermore, I wanted to mention my best friend, Teegan. I know that she is strong, probably the best in your task force. However, contrary to her own strong beliefs, she is far from indestructible. I ask that you consider this before you send her off into any overly dangerous situations. She is one of the few people in this world I can trust, and I don't know what I would do if anything should ever happen to her. That's not a world I want to live in.

Cheerio!

Komi Confidant

Well met, Komi,

I was surprised to hear from you like this. I did not imagine the extent of your magical prowess. You impress me.

I think you are wise to be slow to trust. Your hesitancy is not unexpected. I am not staunchly against corresponding for a time, but know, while this method of communication is secure against interception, it is vulnerable against prying eyes. Therefore, I feel uncomfortable going into a number of relevant details when I cannot personally assure your safety. So while you are free to ask me whatever you want, know there are some things it is unwise for me to answer at this time. It is not because I want to keep things from you, or because I think you incapable of understanding; it is your safety I prioritize.

You mention being concerned for Teegan's safety, and I respect your apprehensions. You are like each other; she spoke to me similarly regarding your safety before her deployment. For many immortals, it is easy to forget the fragility of life, but I promise you, I take it incredibly seriously. As the world saw when they watched Jiro fall, even we are not as untouchable as we once believed ourselves to be.

A word of advice from me to you: Note the creases in my parchment. Fold your next letter in a like manner. The spell will work all the same, but a folded letter reveals less to others who may be nearby when it appears to the recipient.

With all sincerities,

Loosha

Goddess Loosha -

Rest assured, I was just as shocked as you, if not more, when you successfully received my last letter. I do apologize for the lack of discretion - if I'm being perfectly honest, I really didn't think it would even work, or that I would get this far. I'm a little stunned about it.

Goddess Loosha, I don't mean to take up too much of your time or mental energy on a simple human like myself. But that is also my one question - WHY exactly were you looking for me? Believe me, I am flattered that someone as powerful as yourself would think so highly of a mere mortal like me. But I say this, not as an insult to myself, but as a simple truth - I am no one special. And ever since Tee has showed up, the question of "why" has plagued my brain and intruded my sleep. People go missing all of the time. Why was it so important when it happened to me specifically?

I won't ask you any further questions for now, as this is the one thing I feel I have something of a right to know - Why send out a search party for me? Have I done something to garner this level of attention? Is there something you need from me?

With sincerity and confusion,

Komi

Hello again, Komi,

Very quick to get to the point, I see.

You’re absolutely right. You do have a right to know why I sent Agent Reylie and her team. I fear this will dampen your resolve, but of all the questions you could have asked, this is the one I least can answer. I will do what I can, though.

Surely, you must know by now that what you call a “simple truth” cannot be so. There is something special about you, and if there wasn’t, Agent Reylie’s task force wouldn’t have been formed. If there wasn’t, I wouldn’t have so quickly been informed of your absence; in fact, it may not have been noted until you and Dr. Bigteef failed to return from your research trip. And on that note, there’s nothing at all insignificant about you and Dr. Bigteef’s research; I for one find it to be incredibly important—more on that later.

This thing that makes you special also puts you in danger, which is why I’m not comfortable revealing it unless I can personally ensure your safety. In due time, you will be able to manage your safety on your own, and I will tell you everything, but—and I don’t mean this harshly—if one dragonborn managed to snatch you off the street, you’re not ready to face the dangers that will cross your path.

Regarding what exactly is special about you, the information I can part with is this: Your magic is involved. Others who discover this about you—as a few have between 16 Pereundei and now—may desire to take it for their own, and there is little more important than making sure that doesn’t happen. But I want you to know that I hold you, and your life, in a much higher place of value than your magic. I hope my reputation precedes me and you believe me when I tell you this.

Any question you would have asked me about the above, any theories you may have, I would urge you to refrain from discussing them or putting them into writing near anyone you do not trust wholly and without question, and least of all around the one who has you under a geas, and Thad. Neither of them should be given sensitive information about you. I don’t know Thad’s character, but I do know his superiors, and they are skilled divinators. Anything you say to Thad could be overheard. And please know that for similar reasons I am unlikely to give you a satisfactory answer to such questions at this time.

I would like to volunteer some information in hopes that it at least in part makes up for being unable to answer your question directly. I believe I can help you with the mutated seas. There’s been a recent breakthrough—I think I know why nothing has worked for you so far, and with Dr. Bigteef’s research, I think we’re close. Very close. If things go the way I expect them to, the names of Bigteef and Confidant may both hold a longstanding presence in future merfolk history.

I look forward to hearing from you again, Komi.

With all sincerities,

Loosha

Ms. Loosha -

Regarding the recent breakthroughs with the sea mutations - Is there anything you can share with me?

How can I help?
