Laritsi the Magical Talking Sword
The Evolet Crypts Campaign
Art has a sword, everyone!
By sheer luck, Art's lucky "coin" bumped into the hilt of the sword and attached itself like a magnet. Instantly, a voice came from the sword, and upon inspection, Art found that not only was the coin firmly attached, but that the face on it that had become so familiar to him over the years was suddenly animated, and was the source of the voice.
She introduced herself as Laritsi, and upon being asked if she was the coin or the sword, she simply responded "Yes." When asked who Nim was, she said she had no idea, and she was unsure if they were her first wielder. When pressed further about her wielder, she said she believed he was the one who forged her.
I do not know how I was forged, but the last person to wield me called me Laritsi, and spoke to me like he knew me, but I do not know him. I have always wondered if he was lonely in his forge, and spoke to me before I was awakened, thinking I could hear him. But he didn't seem bothered that I didn't remember.
She also made it very clear that she was opposed to the indiscriminate killing that her wielder committed, and said that she was eventually able to wrest her power from him. When asked how she was able to do this, however, the conversation was interrupted.
Here's what it looked like when he got it!
Here's what it looked like when he got it all cleaned up!
Here is Milya's translation of the celestial writing!
Art is blessed with luck simply by wielding the weapon, and has been promised a share of Laritsi's power, if she deems him worthy of it.
Art and Laritsi talked further over their first few weeks together, and she told him more about her past.
"My previous wielder and I knew each other. He created me. He would not tell me what his name was. He told me I'm blessed by Nim. That's why their name is on my blade, and why my power grants luck to those who wield me. But I've never met Nim. At least... not that I can remember. I've never really felt like a sword. I know what I am. But I don't know if that's what I've always been.
"My wielder and I destroyed the city called Evolet, and every last person who lived there. He made me do it. But... he looked... different when we destroyed the city. He had a different face, a different body. The people who... begged for his mercy... called him Jiro. That's the only time I've ever heard my wielder be called any name.
I used all the strength I had to wrest my power from him, and I flung myself from his hand while he was moving to strike. A civilian of Evolet picked me up, and thrust me through my wielder's chest---clean through. But... he didn't die. He acted like his wound was just an inconvenience.
"I used all of the strength I had to get away from him the first time, and I couldn't do it again. He used me to kill everyone in the city. And then he removed the coin from the hilt... then, I woke up in your bag."
