Crescent Blades
The Crescent Blades are the elite warriors and assassins of the Lunar Covenant, dedicated to protecting their people through precision strikes, espionage, and asymmetric warfare. They are the shadow to the Church of the Radiant Flame’s overwhelming force, ensuring that the Covenant survives despite the vast military advantage of the Holy Solarian Empire.
While the Lunar Tribes and Twilight Accord rely on diplomacy and defense, the Crescent Blades embrace a more proactive approach—sabotaging supply lines, assassinating enemy commanders, and striking fear into the heart of the crusaders. Some within the Covenant view them as dangerous extremists, while others see them as essential to survival.
Tactics and Combat Style
The Crescent Blades do not engage in direct warfare unless necessary. Instead, they specialize in:
- Night Raids – Attacking enemy camps under the cover of darkness.
- Ambush Warfare – Using the forests and mountains of the east to strike fast and vanish.
- Assassination – Removing key figures in the enemy’s command structure.
- Psychological Warfare – Spreading fear and misinformation, making the enemy doubt their own allies.
- Sabotage – Burning supply lines, disrupting magical wards, and poisoning food reserves.
Their ultimate goal is not to destroy the enemy in open battle, but to slowly bleed them out, forcing them to withdraw due to low morale, starvation, or shattered leadership.
Structure
Unlike the strict hierarchy of the Church’s Inquisition, the Crescent Blades operate in a decentralized manner. Cells of warriors and spies act independently, often unaware of each other’s missions to prevent betrayal or capture.
The Five Sects of the Crescent Blades
The Shadowed Claw (Assassins & Saboteurs)
- Masters of stealth and precision, the Shadowed Claw eliminates high-value targets within the Empire.
- They conduct night raids, poisonings, and high-risk assassinations of crusader commanders, noble supporters, and inquisitors.
- Their signature technique, Moon’s Embrace, allows them to silence a target so swiftly that no alarm is ever raised.
The Veilstalkers (Scouts & Infiltrators)
- These elite scouts map enemy movements, infiltrate occupied cities, and disrupt supply lines.
- They specialize in spreading misinformation, turning enemy factions against each other.
- Many have developed the art of Moonshadow Speech, a silent form of communication using hand signals and glances.
The Silver Talons (Guerilla Warriors)
- Unlike the assassins, the Silver Talons lead hit-and-run attacks on enemy patrols, ambushing convoys, and destroying siege engines.
- They are trained in unconventional combat, including setting traps and ambushes, using alchemical explosives, and striking fast before vanishing into the wilderness.
- Their leader, Ashara the Moonblade, commands these warriors personally.
The Nightborn (Mystics & Moon-Blessed Fighters)
- A rare and mysterious sect that draws upon Lunarel’s divine power to manipulate shadows and invoke the moon’s protective veil.
- Nightborn warriors can see clearly in absolute darkness, making them deadly in night battles.
- Their signature ability, Eclipse Veil, allows them to fade into the shadows, becoming nearly invisible under the moonlight.
The Whispering Dagger (Counter-Intelligence & Spies)
- Their mission is to root out traitors, uncover spies, and spread misinformation within the Empire.
- They are experts in interrogation, disguises, and deception, ensuring that the Empire never truly knows where the Crescent Blades will strike next.
- Some operate within enemy cities, posing as merchants, diplomats, or even defectors.
"Strike unseen, strike true, and let the darkness conceal our path."
Leadership
The Crescent Blades do not have a formal “leader,” as their decentralized structure prevents any one person from becoming a single target. However, a few key figures command immense respect among their warriors.
Ashara the Moonblade (Leader of the Silver Talons)
- Title: Blademaster of the Crescent
- Role: Ashara is the most feared and respected Crescent Blade commander, leading guerilla strikes and frontline engagements.
- Personality: Coldly efficient in war, yet fiercely loyal to her people. She carries the burden of her fallen warriors heavily, viewing each loss as a personal failure.
- Fighting Style: Wields twin Moonsteel Blades, which are said to shimmer like silver under the moonlight and vanish in the dark.
Nythera the Shadowhand (Master of the Whispering Dagger)
- Title: Veilwalker
- Role: Oversees covert intelligence, counter-espionage, and misinformation campaigns.
- Personality: Mysterious and soft-spoken, but ruthlessly efficient. Few know her true identity, and she is believed to have infiltrated even the highest echelons of the Empire.
- Abilities: A master of disguise, she has been rumored to assume the faces of her victims through an unknown Lunar ritual.
Lord Valen Drakeshadow (Commander of the Veilstalkers)
- Title: The Moon’s Phantom
- Role: Oversees reconnaissance, sabotage, and deep infiltration of enemy territories.
- Personality: Once a nobleman from the Empire who defected to the Lunar Covenant after witnessing the horrors of the Inquisition. He is now one of the Covenant’s deadliest strategists.
- Quirk: Still wears a noble sigil from his former life, claiming it reminds him why he fights.
