Fjorgyn Intolerance

"What do you mean I'm intolerant? I've been eating Fjorgyn all my life! It's the cleanest food around.
— Elden Crabwurst to his doctor

Fjorgyn intolerance is a bodily reaction to mushroom species in the class Fjorgyn, a highly popular foodstuff which appears to reduce the symptoms of Magichem Poisoning when ingested regularly. Fjorgyn intolerance is not uncommon and typically shows up in infancy or early childhood, though adults have been known to develop it. Doctors identify patients who may have the condition by analyzing diets and symptoms of the reaction. If fjorgyn intolerance is indicated, a test can be run on the patient for skin reactions if the patient is willing to allow the test. One confirming test is to scratch the patient and rub fjorgyn into the cut. This test will cause hives in susceptible individuals, but only in extremely rare cases will it cause dangerous swelling in the throat. Doctors who suspect that the patient is sensitive to multiple foods may elect to put the patient on a very restrictive diet and re-introduce different foods until the patient reacts to the new food. If the patient reacts to fjorgyn, the mushroom is removed from the patient's diet.

Transmission & Vectors

This condition is not (thank Sol) communicable. It does run in villages, but is probably related to common bloodlines more than being something people catch from each other.

Causes

This condition is only experienced when the victim ingests Fjorgyn. Touching the mushrooms does not appear to cause any reactions.

Symptoms

Skin: Hives, rashes, swelling

Stomach and Bowels: Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in stool (especially in infants and small children)

Respiratory: Wheezing, coughing, nasal congestion

Severe: Inability to breathe, throat swells up and cuts off air — a life-threatening reaction

Treatment

The only known way to avoid suffering from Fjorgyn Intolerance is by not eating Fjorgyn.

Prognosis

The prognosis for Fjorgyn Intolerance is very good if it is identified correctly and early, and if the patient follows their physician's instructions.

Affected Groups

There is no statistical difference between rates of Fjorgyn Intolerance in different races.
