Eryia

The continent of Eryia is the home of the human race. Humans have lived here since the gods created them and gave them the land to live in. The human population reached a peak of 1.2 billion people in Eryia just prior to the Jordbani , a number that has since shrunk to just over 350 million, primarily due to the effects of Magichem contamination and Magichem Poisoning on the life processes of humans.

The continent is surrounded by the Ur-Hilgarria Ocean and from human calculations almost entirely resides in the southern hemisphere of a planetary body that is an oblate spheroid. The Ur-Hilgarria is a formidable barrier to exploration. The oceans are extremely turbulent and filled with wild magic. While sailing and fishing are lucrative professions in Eryia, these activities take place close to the shore of the continent. Ships that sail beyond sight of the landmass rarely return back to their home port. Of the few ships that have crews that claim to have sailed beyond shore sight, the stories told by those sailors are of very rough seas and leviathans - sea monsters that are large enough to consume a ship whole.

Eryia covers an area of 7.2 million square miles. The north edge of the continent is close to the equator of the planet, and has a hot, humid environment with frequent tropical rainstorms. There is a small tropical island near the north west corner of the continent. To the south, the continental weather patterns drop from temperate to artic with temperatures that make it inhospitable to human beings. There is an ice island off the continent's southern coast which has not been settled. There is a known polar continent that is perpetually covered in snow and ice and is not suitable for human habitation. The continent has two major freshwater rivers that originate from watersheds in the five mountain ranges on the continent. West of the Bjarg Mountain Range on the east side of the continent, a large temperate desert named the Yfirferðar-illr is the driest region of the continent.
