Sound Changes
  1. Loss of final short vowels.
  2. Voiced stops /d/ and /g/ devoice to /t/ and /k/ respectively in all positions.
  3. Vowel /ā/ shifts to /o/ in word-final position.
  4. Diphthongization of /e/, /o/ to /ei/, /ou/ in open syllables.
  5. Intervocalic /d/ disappears.
  6. Fronting of /k/ to /tʃ/ before /i/, /e/.
  7. Voiceless stops /p/, /t/, /k/ become voiced between vowels.
  8. Deletion of unstressed /a/ in word-medial position.
  9. Vowel /a/ is raised to /e/ in closed unstressed syllables.
  10. The clusters /tr/, /dr/, /kr/ simplify to /tʃ/, /dʒ/, /kʃ/.
  11. Word-initial /s/ becomes /h/.
  12. All long vowels shorten in closed syllables.
  13. Palatalization of /n/ to /ɲ/ before /i/.
  14. Word-final nasals are deleted.
  15. The shift of /u/ > /y/ in the environment of front consonants and vowels.
