day of the flaming fire
the day of flaming fire, is an annual celebration used to celebrate the longest day of the year. some say that the gods themselves intervene once a year for a day that they can celebrate with their creations. the celebration lasts five days, two days before the main day and two days after. held in the city of Mezead the festival is held all through-out the city, often people will even open their own doors and host parties in their homes. a parade goes all throughout the city, many wagons are in the parade which play all kinds of music and dancers who jump from cart to cart.
each year among the young adults of the city one is chosen to be the sun lord. the youth is at the forefront of the parade and rides a horse named Ashelwin (meaning sun's kiss) and then thrown into the city square fountain. the sun lord is decorated with red garments.
history
originally the festival was more gruesome. so called "sinners" would be paraded throughout the streets before being executed in public (often by lighting the "sinner" on fire) but now the festival is more tame meant to make it more adequate for the children in the crowd, although the children are normally the bloodthirstiest of the bunch. food, dancing and fireworks are all staples of the celebration. but the iconic food of the festival is cow ears burnt to the point of practically being chips. then drizzled with spiced honey.possible quests
