The Long Eye Guild

The Long Eye Guild is the most powerful and prosperous thieves' guild in Peloch and quite possibly all of the Wild Winds Desert. They were the first underhanded guilds to establish themselves after Peloch's founding and have held the top spot in the criminal hierarchy ever since. Membership into the guild is coveted by many, achieved by few, and envied by any who work on the darker side of Peloch.

While the roots of the guild are still in smuggling, thievery, extortion, and other crimes, it has branched out into more reputable forms of influence, with many a Council Member and Justiciar being accused of being on the take from the Long Eye Guild.

The Long Eye Guild does not take kindly or lightly to others operating in their city. While some guilds, like The Blades and The Creepers, have taken over parts of the city, which are usually ignored by The Eyes, others, like The Five Finger Guild, are in direct and often violent competition with The Eyes.

They may have draped themselves in the trappings of civility over the years, but that doesn't mean those who cross the guild are safe from its immediate and often bloody retaliation.

Structure

The Guild Master, Tunis Taris, is the high leader of the guild, also sometimes called The Long Eye. She is the unchallenged leader of the guild.

Below her are the 7 Short Eyes, each of whom is in charge of one of the main ways the guild makes their money: Thievery, Extortion, Smuggling, Arson, Bribery, Assassination, and Counterfeiting.

Below them are the many made members of the guild, often just referred to as Eyes or Blinkers.

Prospects and Intiates are known as Drops and can expect to spend anywhere from 2 to 5 years as Drops before being given a chance to join the guild in full if they are ever given the opportunity.

Technically, one can leave the guild as long as they are debt-free, but it is rare. The guild doesn't like the idea of former members, who are no longer under their control, out and about.

Culture

The structure of the Long Eye Guild is less strict than many, with each of the Short Eyes allowed to structure how those beneath them operate. As long as the money continues to flow upward, few, if any, questions are asked. There are only a few hard-held principles

  • Don't get caught.
  • Don't divulge guild business to outsiders.
  • Don't kill, maim, steal from, or cheat fellow guild members without permission.
  • An insult to one guild member is an insult to all guild members.
