The Church of Azirapheal the Redeemer

When the Holy Quarant were slain, the world, particularly Arnareth, was thrown into Chaos. God slaying is no small thing, and though no one credible came forward to claim the credit, many theories about who was responsible have circulated.

To the Quarantine worshippers on crusade in the Wild Winds Desert, the sudden loss of their god was disastrous. The sudden loss of their gods and their deific support was the turning point in their efforts to claim the Wild Winds Desert. They were quickly routed and sent running for the sea and home beyond.

It would seem that the Holy Quarant are back. Azirapheal, a common wanderer from deep in the Great Sand Sea, has come forth claiming to be the Holy Quarant reborn. They wield incredible power and have developed a serious and devout following.

Mythology & Lore

Azirapheal is the Holy Quarant Reborn. They were a simple desert wanderer until one night, they were awoken by a strange voice on the wind. They followed it out into the sands for 30 days, and when they were on the brink of death, the spirits of the Holy Quarant came to them. They told Azirapheal that it was time for them to return to the Prime Material, and Azirapheal would be their vessel.

The ritual of assimilation took 10 days, and at the end of it, The Redeemer was born.

Divine Origins

Two years after the Holy Quarant were slain, rumors began to circulate the Wild Winds Desert. Stories of a person possessing incredible powers swirled about the sands. One name was whispered over and over again: Azirapheal. This person, a simple wanderer of the Great Sand Sea, was said to be the Holy Quarant reborn and walking the Material Plane.

For two years Azirapheal wandered the desert, giving out alms, performing healings, saving those thought lost, and amassing a sizeable following. After their time in the desert, Azirapheal made the journey to Peloch and established a small but fierce cult on the God's Walk.

They have since taken back the Cathedral of the Holy Quarant and are growing quickly into a major spiritual and political faction within the city and the country.

Tenets of Faith

Law and Balance

It is the duty of the faithful to resist chaos and establish law. To live within the order of the world and resist those who attempt to bring it into chaos and ruin.

Spread the Word and Welcome the Converted

All are welcome to join the faith as long as they commit to it fully and follow its tenets. No matter how strongly or loudly they resisted previously, they are to be welcomed fully once converted.

Resist the Beings of Chaos at all Turns

Demons, cultists, and sowers of discord are not only to be resisted but to be killed at all opportunities. It is the duty of the Faithful to root out chaos at all points and destroy it.

Protect Those Who Seek Our Protection

Our churches are sacred places where anyone can take refuge without question. As long as they come to us honestly and in need, we will reach out and offer them safety and comfort.

The Church is Anywhere the Faithful Are

The church is not a structure but instead is carried in the soul of the faithful. The Faithful carry the tenets of the Church with them everywhere and are expected to behave accordingly.

Worship

While prayers are now made to Azirapheal the Redeemer directly, some still pray to the Quarant independently, depending on their need. Azirapheal has done away with many of the complex daily rituals required by the Church of the Quarant. Instead, they encourage their followers to live within the tenets of the faith at all times. They still hold weekly services on each fifth day, which are open to all.

The Protector

The Protector is the guardian of the faithful. She is gentle with those who are kind but quick to bring violence and destruction to those who threaten any of the faithful. Many paladins of The Redeemer carry symbols of the Protector on themselves. She and the Wanderer are often considered to be at odds with each other.

The Comforter

The Comforter is prayed to for help surviving trying times or to bring comfort or relief to those who are suffering. He is the shepherd of the dead and the reliever of pain.

The Innocent

The innocent is prayed to for joy, as well as when expecting a child or trying for one. They are the protector of children and other innocents, such as pets and livestock.

The Wanderer

The Wanderer is mysterious and often felt to be sinister. Those on the move in the Great Sand Sea venerate them as a patron. Many others pray to them to leave them alone or direct their attention to others they want misfortune visited upon.

Priesthood

Azirapheal is the head of the church and the faith. They are the god to whom the church is devoted.

  • Below them is the Arch Prelate, who runs the day-to-day machinations of the church.
  • Prelates are the ordained clergy and clerics of the faith. They spread the words of the church.
  • Windswept are devotees of the faithful who still wander the Great Sand Sea doing works in Azirapheal's name.
  • Repentants are those from Aranreth who came to The Wild Winds Desert on crusade but have now converted to the Church of the Redeemer.

Sects

The Wandering Oases

The Wandering Oases are a sect of the Faithful who still wander the Great Sand Sea and beyond, bringing the word of Azirapheal and the succor of the church to the lost and downtrodden. They seek to emulate Azirapheal in the early years of the faith. These Wanderers are often prayed to by lost caravanners or sandship crews that have crashed in the great expanse of the desert.

The Redeemers Fist

This militant order is fully devoted to the hunting and slaying of demons and those who pact with them. They are fanatical and relentless in their pursuit of demonic cultists and others under the influence of demons, as well as demons themselves. One must slay a demon by themselves to even be considered into the ranks of the Redeemers Fists. It is said that the founding Fists were trained by Azirapheal themselves and possess never before seen powers against demons.

The Redeemer welcomes all whose hearts are true.
