High Wind is the richest and most exclusive neighborhood in Peloch. The five richest and most influential families, including the current Rah-Al-Neem and their family, all live within the protective walls of High Winds. As the city has continued to grow and expand, the ancient architecture and beautiful buildings of High Winds are a testament to the age of Peloch and to the immense wealth and power the city has wielded for centuries. Within its walls are the finest shops, best-armed guards, and lushest grass lovingly maintained by priests of Tem-Et-Nu, paid by generous donations by the families that live there. While the Harnraj may be the public hall where decisions and policies are discussed, the true fate of the city is often decided within the walls of High Winds.
1: Castle of the Rah-Al-Neem: The Keep of the Winds
The Keep of the Winds is a truly spectacular building. Its defensive walls and the inner keep walls are entirely made of Arnkrufuth stone, which makes both a beautiful and imposing sight. The castle is said to have been built by Shenriah the Many, and the vaults below it hold ancient and powerful weapons and magics not seen in centuries.
The castle has its own garrison of elite guards, the Warriors of the Winds. They are the personal guard of the Rah-Al-Neem. Their deeds are legendary, and becoming a member is a great honor.
2: Carwen Estate: Home of the Partcus Family
Iron and mineral importers and major players in the Weapons and Armor Trade and Guilds. The Carwen family is a Dwarven clan originally hailed from Tsfun Barg and has made deep roots in Peloch over the past 150 years.
3: El'Norneel Manse: Home of the Zirvai Clan
This tabaxi Clan is the newest family to move into High Winds. They have become the largest agricultural importer and exporter in Peloch. The workings of this family feed thousands.
4: Holdal Mansion: Home of the Vaigla Family
For generations, this family of Halflings has been prominent in the textile industry in Peloch. With the railroad's new connections, they were quick to corner the dye imports from the Four Rivers.
5: Pitbow Manor: Ulbut Family Home
The Ulbut clan are the main lenders and bankers of Peloch. While the clan was all dwarves when it first came to Peloch, centuries of power marriages have made the clan a cosmopolitan mix of all sorts. Dwarves, Halflings, Mul, Half-Elves, Half-Orcs, Humans, and others all bear the Ulbut name. A letter of mark, or credit with the Ulbut seal is said to be "as good as gold".
6: City Watch Barracks:
The Duskgrip Citadel is the home of the watchpeoples who patrol High Wind. While many would think these people would be the best and brightest of the City Watch, the high rate of nepotism and favoritism makes for a Watch company that is good for little more than threatening vagrants and patrolling the grass-lined streets of High Winds.
7: Bath House: Amir Ahmad Bathhouse
A true wonder, the steam rooms, saunas, and soaking pools of the Amir Ahmad have seen more conversations that have shaped life in Peloch than nearly anywhere else. The walls and floors are covered in intricate mosaics of swirling color, and the stained glass roof gives the building a mystical and otherworldly feel.
8: Merchant Casbah
The great casbah houses the most coveted vendor stalls in all of Peloch. There is only one free-standing shop in the neighborhood, currently occupied by the gem cutters of Lawton and Kuhn's; all other vendors work out of the great casbah. The beautiful market houses a dozen vendors who supply the people of High Winds with all sorts of goods.
9: The Garden of the Sacred Palm
This small walled garden is comparatively simple when juxtaposed with the grandeur of the noble estates. But within its walls is the first tree that was planted in Peloch when it was settled. It is said that Shenriah the Many planted a seed and meditated over it for a full day and night. The next day, a date palm sprung forth, fully grown and ready to feed the people of the growing settlement.
10: Gem shop: Lawton and Kuhn's
This shop, which changes hands periodically through political and mercantile machinations, is currently in the hands of Harrir Lawton and En al'Khun, a pair of truly gifted gem cutters and jewelers. It is rumored that both learned the trade when they were an infamous pair of thieves feared the length and breadth of Hyarbarrin before settling in Peloch.
11: Tavern/Brothel: The Graceful Fawn
This beloved tavern is three stories tall and rarely quiet. It is patronized mainly by the Watchpeople of the Duskgrip Citadel and is the closest thing that High Winds has to a seedy establishment. The rumors that flow out of this tavern fetch a high price from both the thief's guilds and politicians of the city.
12: Theatre: The Pearl
The Pearl is a beautiful old theatre that has housed many of the greatest performers for generations. It is truly lovely inside and believed to be haunted by two of the greatest playwrights Peloch has ever seen, Sentrilla Leafwillow and Marntrah Stonearm, who have been said to still get in shouting matches about who the greater writer was.
13: Tavern/brothel: Palm Tree Inn
A small, quiet tavern with a lovely patio and many small private alcoves for intimate or private meetings.
14: Tavern/brothel: The Silver Stallion
The closest tavern to the main gate of High Winds, the Silver Stallion, has a large common room with a lovely stage. The entire second and third floors are small private rooms for people to meet. It is common to be given a pass to enter High Winds that only allows you to go to the Silver Stallion.
15: Seven Blooms Garden
This beautiful Riadh hosts seven different flowers that are constantly in bloom. It is a truly spectacular and beautiful space and is said to have the sweetest water in Peloch.
16: Al Khal's
This amazing, mostly open-air restaurant is one of, if not the best, places to eat in Peloch. The creative and amazingly talented chef, Al Khal, is a porterling whose dwarven mother and halfling father have given her a unique perspective on the cuisine of the Wild Winds Desert. She uses the proximity to the Featherland Farms and Fisherman's Walk to source the best and freshest ingredients. Many wait for years to get a table here.
