Udrion, the First
The One Become Two
Origin of Dragons
First of Many
"At the start of all things, there was the Dragon.According to the legends of dragonkind there was one dragon from who all others were made, and depending on the source there are differing answers. The two most common names given belong to elder dragons who are revered as gods, the origins of different philosophies on how to treat those who are not dragons. Pelaris, the Dragonfather, is believed to be a driving force for dragons to rule through behaving as someone to aspire being like. Wythra, the Mother Tyrant, teaches her scions and followers to instead rule through domination. But sometimes a third entity is brought up, briefly, as few dragons seem willing to discuss the matter of their origins beyond the dogmatic views.
From the Dragon came those born of fire and flesh,
The Firstborn were released to behold the world.
A vast globe to rule, through conquest or guile.
In this third series of stories, Udrion is said to be the first dragon which existed on Erisdaire. They created children from their own magic and flesh, but as time developed the world and the new dragons encountered other species there was an effect on Udrion's essence. Disagreements on how to proceed were brought to Udrion, who could not discern any one choice as better than the other. Choosing to give a choice to their progeny, the first dragon split Their essence into both Pelaris and Wythra to lead the different paths.
Due to the the prominence of the sibling deities and the stories characterizing them as the creators of dragonkind, even mentioning Udrion is considered a heresy above the level of following the opposite number among the siblings. With the stories spreading anew across Erisdaire, dragonkind have begun to fracture again into a third ideal which prizes coexistence with the other races without choosing to rule. This seems to be restricted to newly-born dragons who are becoming raised during a time when dragons are not given the same reactions as earlier ages. This newer group is considered very young, but with the long lifespans of dragons this "youth" translates into "the last thousand years or so".
Holy Books & Codes
Most of what is known of Udrion directly is from passages in the oral history of dragons, known as "the Litany of Scale". Due to the sundering of dragons into two distinct subdivisions, the Litany itself is prone to having multiple versions which compete over what is the truth. As noted previously, Udrion's existence itself is a heresy among most of dragonkind - any passages which refers to Them have been stricken from most known versions of the Litany. Over the course of the last couple centuries, efforts to restore these portions have seen there to be a third branch of versions taking shape. Time will tell whether this effort survives more than a handful of draconic generations.
