Synthetic Fire Adrenaline

Synthetic Fire Adrenaline is meant for use by medical professionals treating Fire Elemental in need of medical attention. Either emergencies or long hospitals stays that could possibly threaten their lives due to Rush Withdrawal. However, the massive dopamine rush, and opioid-like pain killing effect of Firen Adrenaline makes it an attractive substance for abuse by Elementals that are not Fires. Highly addictive, hospitals often have this synthetic version stolen, or worse, sold off by staff. This is because the replicated version of the natural hormone has less severe side effects compared to the natural version, therefore making it highly valuable as traffickers often flood the street market with the illegally harvested hormone.

Effects and Use

Injecting synthetic Firen Adrenaline invokes a practically instant high, and immediate pain relief. It causes a slight increase in healing speed in Non-Firen Elementals, although it is almost impossible to reach the levels that the Fire Elementals have naturally due to its side effects. Like the Rush experienced in Fire Elementals through their natural exposure, the synthetic version effects the parts of the brain that perceive and comprehend spoken speech. It makes its users aggressive, without any sense of their previous worries, and completely overrides any sense of fear. Users are unable to feel pain, and have a severely altered sense of injuries that they may incur. Since Fire Elementals rely on their telepathy to sense others around them while rushed, Non-Firen Elementals become unable to recognize faces of the living or the dead with no way to identify who is around them. One of the most obvious signs that someone is using Firen Adrenaline, whether natural or Synthetic is the colour of their irises, which change to a saturated yellow. It also causes several normal adrenaline effects, increasing the heart rate, slowing down the rate of the digestive system, thickening saliva, and dilating the eyes.

Within hospitals, use is strictly limited to Fire Elementals (who are all dependent on the natural form) for legitimate medical reason. These would be to supplement them during long hospital stays due to their natural addiction and to reduce the harsh effects of withdrawal, during surgeries due to Fire Elemental resistance to anesthesia, and during emergencies to provide a boost to healing. It is usually administered intravenously for these purposes.

Side Effects

The largest side effect of using Synthetic Fire Adrenaline is its dependency. After one or two uses, the body becomes chemically dependent on the substance with recreational amounts. In non-Firen Elementals, they develop cravings for higher and higher dosages to achieve a larger dopamine release as supplies become diminished. Between uses, colour literally drains from a user's regular life and only found again with continued use. Withdrawal begins to set in quicker between doses. Eventually, this constant use causes cortisol related wear and tear. Larger amounts used cause extremely high heart rates during use, and can cause death.

However, the most common cause of death from using Synthetic Firen Adrenaline is usually the extremely reckless behaviour and aggression that it causes. As users do not feel fear, pain, and are extremely aggressive, yet they cannot actually recognize any of the surrounding faces. They underestimate their own injuries constantly, and fail to comprehend the injuries they cause to others. Forced into a 'Fight' mentality with no option for 'flight', they often fight the people around them to their own death. What may have once started with a small high, or relief from pain, can quickly spiral into a person that truly believes they are invincible, all the while seeing everyone around them as an enemy.

Compared to its natural version, the side effects are still less severe, as the natural version can cause severe burns with large use inside the veins it's injected to. Cauterizing instantly. However, the synthetic version does not allow the same telepathic link with Fire Elementals that use of the natural version allows, furthering isolating those that use it. This is largely seen as due to the lower concentration of integrated Fire Magic within the molecule of the synthetic version.
