Coin Day, Autumn's Half Moons

Autumn's two half moons are known as Coin Day and are meant to be a reminder more than a celebration. It takes place during Ripening Moon (12/19). The god Donachie is associated with this holiday.   Coin Day comes in the middle of autumn, a time of harvests and plenty, however, the lean times of winter will come quickly. It was to be the reminder of how important it is to save for the winter, but it has become a big party. Celebrants bake "Donacakes" which are glazed cinnamon rolls with coins baked inside and bob for apples that have a coin embedded in the flesh.   It is customary for children to receive a decorative bank from their parents in the morning; they are store any coins they receive in the bank. If the child still has their bank from the previous year, they are allowed to break it open; the child can choose to put last year's coins into their new bank or to spend them. Donachie holds a special place in His heart for children who break their banks to help their households through difficult times; such children can visit his temples for a coin from the Calculators.
