Vulpen

Vulpen are an Uplifted variant of the common foxes who come from the temperate forests of Ereset. They have pointed ears and tails, and their fur is usually red or orange in color. Their eyes are yellow with black pupils, and they have long legs and sharp claws. They can shape-shift at will between a humanoid form and a fox form. Most vulpen live in tight-knit groups with other vulpen in a larger community of other species.
  Vulpen do not need to eat food like other living species, but they can if they so choose. They need to feed on the emotional responses of other creatures in order to survive. Vulpen are highly intelligent and can speak the languages of other species. They are very curious about Starborn, who are prone to strong displays emotions, and many of them try to befriend them. However, most humans find it difficult to understand vulpen's strange speech patterns. Vulpen are very social creatures, and they often communicate through song and dance. They also enjoy playing games involving strategy and chance.
  Vulpen prefer to settle conflicts with other vulpen by one-on-one combat on even ground. They consider conducting these duels with poison or on ground that is not perfectly flat to be unthinkable. Vulpen who lose dueling matches are expected to pay restitution for any damage done during the fight. If a vulpen loses their life in a duel, they must undergo a ritualistic burial before being allowed to rest in peace. If the two vulpen are both magic-users, they may opt for a magical duel, although these are often much more lethal.
  Vulpen have a reputation for being cunning among the other species. They are known to use trickery against enemies in battle, and they are especially skilled at using illusions to confuse foes. Many of them are also adept at using poisons. Vulpen are not particularly aggressive, however; they tend to avoid fighting unless they feel threatened. In fact, they are often seen as cowardly because of this.
  The Vulpen forage for mushrooms herbs and berries, hunt for meat furs bones and hides, mix potions and medicine, make cured meats, fashion fur and leather goods, craft bone tools and jewelry, carve bows and fletch arrows. Their fashionable clothing made of animal skins are sought after by the other species.
