Monk

A Martial Artist of Supernatural Focus

This Monk article features subclass options for Erenel players in 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons. The article will be updated over time as new subclasses are released! Some subclasses are only available for Gamingbrew Patrons!

Monks use rigorous combat training and mental discipline to align themselves with the multiverse and focus their internal reservoirs of power. Different Monks conceptualize this power in various ways: as breath, energy, life force, essence, or self, for example. Whether channeled as a striking display of martial prowess or as a subtler manifestation of defense and speed, this power infuses all that a Monk does.   Monks focus their internal power to create extraordinary, even supernatural, effects. They channel uncanny speed and strength into their attacks, with or without the use of weapons. In a Monk’s hands, even the most basic weapons can become sophisticated implements of combat mastery.   Many Monks find that a structured life of ascetic withdrawal helps them cultivate the physical and mental focus they need to harness their power. Other Monks believe that immersing themselves in the vibrant confusion of life helps to fuel their determination and discipline.   Monks generally view adventures as tests of their physical and mental development. They are driven by a desire to accomplish a greater mission than merely slaying monsters and plundering treasure; they strive to turn themselves into living weapons.

5E.24 Subclasses

The subclasses below are designed with 5E.24 rules and mechanics.

Warrior of Chrono Break

Fractured Time Flows Through You
Warriors of Chrono Break do not simply master movement, they master the moments between. Through relentless focus and deep meditation, they attune their bodies to subtle fractures in time, where actions echo and possibilities blur. Their strikes reverberate seconds after landing, their bodies vanish just before the blow connects, and their presence flickers like a skipped frame in reality. A Chrono Break monk does not fight harder or faster. Instead, they fight ahead of the now, always a heartbeat out of reach, striking as the world catches up.

5E.14 Subclasses

Originally created for 5E.14, the subclasses below can be easily adapted for use with 5E.24 rules.

Way of the Crane

Monks of the Way of the Crane follow a tradition that values careful, precise strikes and natural agility in battle. Mesmerizing grace envelopes the monk, as they seem to dance across the battlefield using War Fans to mimic Crane Wings. Their "wings" counter attacks with movement that do not require great strength, instead emphasizing evasion and attacking the opponent's vulnerabilities, all while continuing their dance.

While this mind spike is unseen to mortals, the otherworldly spike is visible to all looking in from the ethereal plane. With Bhalus's "blessing," you have found yourself on a path to enlightenment and can project your will into the thoughts of others. Way of Pyroclasm

Monks who follow the Way of Pyroclasm are forged by fire. Harnessing the primal energy of fire, these monks become destructive forces on the battlefield, channeling fiery eruptions and molten flows into their combat style. However, the Way of Pyroclasm is not purely destructive. Like a volcano that brings fertile soil in its wake, these monks believe in transformation through fire, balancing their devastating power with a deep reverence for renewal.

Way of the Werebear

One of the most ancient and feared of all curses, lycanthropy will transform the most civilized into a ravening beast. A monk who follows the Way of the Werebear is cursed with lycanthropy. Whether the werebear’s curse was inherited from their parents or passed on after suffering an injury from another lycanthrope, the monk has learned to control their affliction. Those with lycanthropy often describe it as feeling like you share a portion of yourself with another entity that can influence your thoughts. By altering their spirit to resonate with this curse, and with the help of moon tea, monks who follow this tradition augment their skill in combat by transforming into a werebear.
