Animated Undead

General Lore & Info

The most common, most weakest, but also most varied type of undead, these moving corpses have no intelligence, animated solely by the negative energy tethering them to undead animation. Without the proper protections, rites and wards against negative energies, any corpse can become an animated undead if it's exposed to enough negative energy for a long enough period of time. However it is also possible for spellcasters to use the animate dead spell to animate a certain range of undead themselves, and command them.

Natural occurring undead have no commands, nor lingering emotions or memories that drive them. All they aim to do is end any life in their vicinity that they can perceive.

Draugr

The draugr are a form of undead, specifically corpses of creatures who have died of drowning, or whose corpses were tossed in the sea. Because of their environment, they are always in far better physical condition than zombies will be, which works out since their more preserved state reduces their movement speed in the water. These can be encountered in locations where bodies were tossed, anywhere humanoids or demi-humanoids have perished, or be pulled along the currents of the ocean.

Nexus Corpse

Nexus Corpses are a very rare and deadly form of undead where their undead bodies have become entangled with a minor negative sphere, resulting in them becoming a nexus of negative energy. These creatures emanate an aura of negative energy around them all the time (often resulting in the automatic animation of corpses around them). When creatures with ultravision gaze towards them, they will see a dark light around them illuminating the area in a vast degree. Natural nexus corpses are usually found in locations where magic is very frequently being flowed through (such as leylines), or in places as guards if they were created by spellcasters.

Skeleton

Unlike most other animated dead, skeletons have no flesh left on their bones, whether due to decay or due to being stripped of flesh. They are not as strong or fast as zombies because of this, but their bones are harder than zombies making them more durable. Furthermore while they aren't as fast, they have no rotten flesh restraining their movements, making more precise actions easier.

Zombie

Zombies are the most common form of undead aside from draugr and skeletons due to basic corpse preservation. They also have the greatest variety of sub-forms as undead. They are stronger than skeletons but with a reduced precision to their actions and movements.
