Kardiá

Kardiá is a seaside city in the northeast of the Authenian Republic.

Demographics

The vast majority of the inhabitants of Kardiá are either fishermen or sailors. Due to this, Poseidon is the Patron God of the city, and most civilians own either a small shrine or an amulet depicting him.   Few in Kardiá have to worry about starvation, seeing as fish are in bountiful supply, though most of the population is working class.

Government

The government in Kardiá has a low tax rate, and focuses much of their budget on city security and the education of children.

Defences

Kardiá holds one of the largest naval outposts in the Republic, making it one of the most secure cities in Authenian territory.   Authenian watchtowers surround Kardiá and its ports, each tower has a ballista mounted on it, making both ground and naval attacks ill-advised.

Industry & Trade

Due to being a seaside city, fishing is the largest industry in Kardiá. Large amounts of monk fish, angel fish and salmon are sold to traveling merchants hailing from other Authenian towns and cities. The Kardián Sand-Crab is considered a local delicacy, and their hard chells are occasionally used to create armour.

Infrastructure

Kardiá has a massive shipyard, connected to the largest Authenian naval outpost in existence. This makes Kardiá a valuable asset to the Authenian Martial Committee.   Kardia has three collosal windmills which harness the harsh winds of the Poseiatic Sea. These windmills are used to grind large portions of dried sea-barley, a type of seaweed used to create a rare beer. These windmills also power a large industrial forge used to make cannons.

Guilds and Factions

The Church of Poseidon has its largest temple in Kardiá, and most of the inhabitants visit from time to time to praise Poseidon for the bounties of fish they collect.

Tourism

Many tourists make their way to Kardiá every year to take part in the festival of Aphrodisia, a week long celebration of beauty, love and lust, held in the name of Aphrodite. The western half of the city is quite popular with these visitors, who enjoy the warmer weather, exotic and romantic restaurants, the beautiful wildflower covered botanical gardens and luxurious hotels.

Architecture

Most buildings in Kardiá are made from clay and stone bricks, as to stop sea water from leaking into buildings. The exterior of many buildings close to the sea are adorned with sea chells and carapaces from sand-crabs, as to stop the waves from eroding the stonework.

Geography

Kardiá sits beside the Poseiatic Sea, to the point where waves regularly hit the eastern wall of the city. The area surrounding area is quite rocky, with patches of sand. The only vegetation that can be found in the area is seaweed, kelp and moss.   The western half of Kardiá is warmer, and not exposed to the harsh, Poseiatic wind. Wildflowers grow throughout this half of the city, and the sun tends to break from the clouds more often, giving the western half a more hospitable environment.

Climate

The wind being brought in by the Poseiatic Sea is cold and violent, particularly in the winter, making the eastern side of the city quite cold, meaning there are few houses in that area, and more fish processing plants.

Natural Resources

Sitting next to the Poseiatic Sea, Kardiá makes use of its violent wind though massive windmills. The Poseiatic Sea also gives the city of Kardiá the biggest fishing industry in the entire Republic.
