Lothis

History

Founded by a deserter of the 120-year war, Lothis began as nothing more than an orchard and a small homestead on the fringes of civilization. In the aftermath of the war, when the gods abandoned Ereanor, they took magic with them, causing mass panic as healers were rendered powerless and countless lives were lost. Diseases began to run rampant, with the most horrific of these being Boneblood disease and lycanthropy, which spread like wildfire. Fifteen years before the outbreak, Lothis had evolved into a decent-sized village on the water, populated by former healers who had deserted their posts. They collaborated to develop new medical practices using various herbs and plants, the most notable of which was the Vitalis Protia, a powerful healing potion. When the outbreaks occurred, Lothis adeptly managed the spread of disease, and stories of their miraculous cures reached kingdoms far and wide. In response, these nations sent spies to uncover the secrets behind Lothis’ medical practices. Soon, kingdoms and businesses began stockpiling ingredients, charging exorbitant amounts to cure the afflicted, resulting in the horrific death and transformation of many.   In defiance of this greed, many rose up against these oppressive nations. Among the most notable were Edward Brown of the Black Sails and Captain James Harful. Both men had served aboard supply ships during the 120-year war, utilizing their knowledge of logistics to smuggle a combined total of 489 tons of amanita mushrooms, wolfsbane, and other vital medical supplies into underprivileged areas. Lothis became their unofficial headquarters, fostering a strong camaraderie between the two. However, their daring exploits ultimately led them to overreach when they attempted to raid an Ironhavish vessel. Captured, they were publicly executed, hung in the city square for days as a grim reminder of the consequences of their defiance.   Despite their tragic end, Edward and James' legacies endured. Statues were erected in Lothis to honor their great deeds, and their actions ushered in financial prosperity for the people, allowing the village to grow into a thriving city. Lothis became a vital port city, trading mainly in medicine and coffee. Lothis continued to flourish until the year 1224, when the Sparrowick army marched on the city. Though the defenders fought valiantly, they were swiftly defeated. Many military leaders faced execution, while soldiers who pledged loyalty to the Sparrowicks were inducted into the army.   Though enemies now live within its walls, the same orchard and homestead that began the city stand proud.
