Duratri is a representative republic. Every eight years, there is an election, where each district elects someone to represent them.
History
After being exiled from Lothis in 1090 due to an experiment deemed unethical by his superiors, Dr. Naïlo Mindartis rallied his colleagues and several citizens of Lothis to join him, promising them a place where they could be truly free. They boarded The Eclipse, Naïlo’s personal galleon, and set sail for the frontier—a land of opportunity that was being unlocked through the introduction of fog beacons.
Their journey across the Silgarian Ocean and into the Sylvan Sea was fraught with hardships, but their resolve remained unbroken. Eventually, they made landfall in a small clearing upriver. As they began to explore their new home, they discovered an ancient village by the river, adorned with runes written in a long-lost language. Alongside the village, they unearthed a small mine filled with abandoned equipment.
Within the mine, they found a large deposit of Astra, a rare and powerful material that had only been heard of from the Monks of the Tranquil Mind. Utilizing this resource and their collective expertise across various scientific fields, the settlement quickly prospered.
By the year 1100, the village had grown into a thriving city, complete with various districts. The city lead the world in genetic modification, allowing for easy production of any and all necessary supplies. The community chose to shift from a pure democracy to a representative democracy, where each district would elect a representative to voice their ideals and address their issues. By 1102, they began opening trade with nearby settlements, primarily exporting genetically modified livestock and crops that had a longer shelf life during transit than traditional produce.
However, following the assassination of Naïlo, the nation adopted an isolationist stance. They poured their time and effort into achieving full self-sufficiency, cutting off trade with surrounding nations. To protect their way of life, they genetically modified the forest surrounding their city to deter potential invaders. Since that time, not much is known about their activities. Attempts to make contact with the city have been fruitless, and any planes passing overhead have been shot down.
