Mechanics & Inner Workings

This item is a ring with a storng connection to Null in the demiplane of Hel.

History

This ring was originally the wedding ring of Jaren Hawk. It became the spellcasting focus through which Jaren channeled the power of Null. Upon the death of a Null possessed Jaren, the ring was grabbed by a demon. The demon flew through the Hel-rift that had opened during the Crimson Conflict. Upon arriving in the material plane, the demon regained his humanity, becoming the first tiefling, named Ra'zul. He became the leader of the Tieflings, and led them through tough times.    Eventually, Bloodkin Ra'zul was assasinated in 1093, and the ring fell into the hands of a Starbound official named Naomi. Naomi held onto the ring for 87 years, slowly succumbing to its maddening effect. Naomi was murdered in her bed by bandits, who became enamored with the ring. The two of them fought over it, and the victor, a human named Drolis Raikard took it. The ring became a family heirloom, staying in the family for 67 years. Misfortune befell all members of the family that wore the ring, but they could not resist the urge to wear it. After passing down twice, the last living Raikard perished in a housefire.    The ring was picked up from the ashes by Scavengers who fought over it. Neither were victorious, and the ring was claimed by a passing tiefling named Je'ral who held it for 27 years. Je'ral was fleeing Isandri by boat when it was decimated. He died due to his proximity to the blast, and the ship was sent flying through the water. The boat found itself upon the shores of Sev'Satara, where it was picked up by Harali, a worshipper of Salos, the minor god of Hope. The ring corrupted Harali over the course of 6 years, turning him from his religion. He was exiled for worshipping the ring as an idol, making way to Dendrigar. There, he lived in isolation for 15 years, until he passed away.    A local named Tresil came to check on him, finding the ring. He held onto the ring without issue for 16 years (he didn't wear it). Eventually, Tresil was robbed, and the ring was taken by an Elf named Aithlyn who added it to the wares of his store where it stayed for 13 years. It was bought by Naïlo Mindartis, and studied. The ring was then taken from the mimic house in Lothis by Elarich.
