Erdenfold is a dark and existential high-fantasy world for tabletop roleplay, inspired by the politics, technology, and aesthetics of the Late Antiquity and Early Medieval periods in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Explicit analogues are drawn from many real-world events, peoples, cultures, and kingdoms, interwoven through the lens of fantastical storytelling. These analogues are not necessarily one-to-one, and any one subject could invoke the imagery, themes, or beliefs of several real-world events or peoples.
The primary conflict of Erdenfold's first campaign, Rise of the Southern Cult, follows a fantasy analogue to the Christianization of Europe, wherein a monotheistic religious order from the heart of the fallen Southsea Empire seeks to expand its doctrine northward with an arsenal of political influence and militant zealotry.
