Zabalfreen
Demographics
Mostly Human with Charwallian heritage. Minority population of dwarves with halfling enclaves.
Government
Zabalfreen is a part of The Duchy of Tiden and takes its primary rules of law from there. As the dominant religion here is not The Kirk of Seasons, Zabalfreen does not have a Mayor Ornate. Instead, the town is governed by a Zhalef chosen by the head of House Miyazhar.
Defences
Zabalfreen is surrounded on all sides by palisades, with five gates each overseen by a pair of guarded towers: one gate each at the south-west and north east that respectively lead to the roads for Arkenfort and Port Darcinia; and one each in the North and South, respectively following the canal's journey to The Lilting Wood and the miner's hills in the south.
Industry & Trade
Most common occupations: logger, miner, hunter.
Additionally this is where Tiden's most popular mead is brewed: Stungwart Brew, which comes in four major varieties: standard * blood-aged (stronger, with spices) * earthen (dwarven style, tastes like peppered caramel) * powdered hog (floral, with a mix of winterberry and elern leaf.
Infrastructure
Zabalfreen is an impressive wooden settlement, with unusually tall buildings. The streets are cobbled with white and yellow cobbles, lined with bronze. When the sun rises over Galtops on an Autumn morning, Zabalfreen is compared to a statue set in caramel.
A number of bustling courtyards scattered around the northern districts feature frequent pop-up markets housed in open air wooden stalls that lean against the public and commercial store houses, that rise to the sky and dig deep into the earth.
A canal runs, not far behind the Eastern wall.
Guilds and Factions
Zabalfreen contains guildhouses for a number of factions, most notably The Hunter's Gather, whose local lodge serves as the town's primary tavern. The Gather benefits from a great variety of harvestable fauna from the nearby lilting wood. They also maintain a symbiotic relationship with the local mining guild who use them for security in return for harvesting opportunities. Mining opportunities nearby include sources of precious gems as well as copper, tin and iron.
Architecture
The people of Zabalfreen inhabit reinforced bronzewood houses, built in square, pentagonal and hexagonal patterns. Verticality is a noticeable feature: most houses are at least two stories and many commercial buildings stretch as high as four or five.
