Private Military Corporations

Mercenary work is and always has been an instrumental part of terran operations. PMC’s are an effective means of securing assets, supplementing armies, and of course performing jobs too undesirable for their patron companies to conduct.

Composition

Manpower

The amount of men within a mercenary company depends on a host of different factors, and of course the era in which the PMC was operating. During the Commonwealth Era, for instance, some PMC's were as powerful as entire nation states, holding vast swaths of land, assets, and manpower. During the Era of Expansion, the FTS implemented regulations to limit the power of PMC's before they had to be disolved into smaller companies.
"People keep saying mercs are giving private companies too much power. I say they haven't actually given that statement any thought. PMC's can only have about ten thousand active duty personel at any one time. This may sound like alot, but you gotta realize the TAF has billions of soldiers, millions of armored vehicles, and thousands of naval ships. One, or even hundreds, of merc companies could never stand against that."

  • Equipment

During the commonwealth era, regulations as to what PMC's were allowed to legally get their hands on were quite minimal; with the only pieces of hardware being capital-class ships and Macrolancer satelites (both of which being planet-destroying weapons in and of themselves.) This meant that PMC's were legally allowed to use all of the same hardware and software that any official state military was allowed to use, as far as Commonwealth Laws were concerned. During the Era of Expansion, however, regulations were put in place that prevent PMC's from acquiring ships larger than that of a Destroyer, as well as several other regulations preventing them from deploying long-ranged weapon satelites close to planets, deploying superheavy vehicles, or forming aquatic navies.
