Miller Heights

A blue-collar area hit hard when manufacturing turned toward Atlas Park. The people of Miller Heights are still hardworking and resolute, despite their lack of opportunity. Many have turned to crime in the wake of the manufacturing shift, making this one of the roughest parts of the city. There is also a fairly deep-seated resentment for most superheroes and villains, due to associations with the “super-science” driven Atlas. Residents of Miller Heights tend to keep to their own. To many, local criminal gangs and residential organized crime are more trusted and welcome than costumed vigilantes.
COLAN’S GYM: The oldest gym in the city, owned and operated by Fighting Devil I. On the surface, a perfectly normal gym, with low member fees and a solid variety of equipment. For a select few, however, there is the ‘back room,’ with a fully-stocked gym that gives users workouts that benefit those with superhuman strength or endurance. Colan’s is well known for their annual boxing tournament, supporting a minor boxing league that is strictly for non-powered individuals.
HOGAN’S ALLEY: Almost a neighborhood unto itself, Hogan’s Alley is the name given to a community of transients living in the alleys and open spaces of Miller Heights. Transients in Hogan’s Alley range from lifelong drifters to those who have recently found themselves running from home and include those with something to hide or with nothing to lose. Close-knit and secretive, Hogan’s Alley residents eventually hear about nearly anything that happens on the city streets. Getting them to open up, however, is easier said than done.
BUSIEK HOUSE: In a nondescript location in the heart of Miller Heights, Busiek House is a halfway home for supervillains coming out of parole or correctional programs and attempting to return to life in the city. While Busiek House has limited availability, and thus is a difficult program to get into, the rehabilitation program is surprisingly successful. Rumors abound that this is largely due to the efforts of house manager Hercules Jones, Bronze Age ‘super P.I.,’ and his off-the-record efforts to get his charges involved in superhero activity.
