Kane Heights
Located at the northernmost edges of the city, Kane Heights is easily the most affluent part of the city. Mired in old money, tucked away in spacious mansions separated by high walls and impressive landscaping. Kane Heights rarely sees the sorts of crime and other incidents that seem to run rampant through the rest of the city, but Kane Heights is far from sleepy.
Many of the Heights’ residents see themselves as movers and shakers in city affairs- on either side of the law. With their considerable wealth and longstanding influence, this is true for many. Among those in Kane Heights are financial backers of several superhero teams, supervillain enterprises, and more. Additionally, many of the residents are former or current superheroes and villains, themselves. Not many visitors come to Kane Heights, but when they do, rest assured it is with good reason.
WEISINGER, LLC: This firm specializes in hosting highly exclusive auctions of specialty goods. Off the record, many of these auctions feature items scavenged from superhero battles, alien and occult artifacts, and other things that can only be procured through them … and only to the highest of bidders. This aspect of the auctions is highly illegal, with most of their sales items being exactly what the DPA would want to keep out of civilian hands. However, with ever-deepening pockets and a customer base that values them highly, Weisinger LLC has managed to keep themselves above the law.
NEW UNIVERSAL SECURITY: A private security firm that handles nearly the entirety of Kane Heights. New Universal is unique, in that they are the only known private security firm of its size that employs superhuman agents. With contracts from the super-rich, as well as those connected with government, New Universal is the only one that can pay for such things. They are also rumored to be fiercely competitive in recruitment efforts, to keep that distinction.
THE GOLDEN GALA: An annual event, and Epicenter’s most infamous fundraiser. A masquerade gala thrown by a committee of Kane Heights residents, the masquerade is rumored to be attended by some of the most notorious members of the Golden and Silver Age superhuman community. All under masks other than their own, attendees can socialize, plot and plan, and raise a massive amount of money for several of the city’s charitable organizations. Most notably, however, the Golden Gala serves as a sort of annual armistice, a place where hero and villain alike interact without conflict. For that night, at least.
THE AMMONITE COMMUNITY: Not a part of Kane Heights but located in geographic proximity. The Ammonites are a reclusive community to the north of the city. Strictly luddite, they live with a level of technology on par with the 1800’s. What separates the Ammonites from other communities, however, is their religious practice: believing technology beyond what they have, as well as human achievement beyond the “norm” to both be signs of the end times, the Ammonite Community prepares for that inevitable end by worshipping old, unspeakable, horrible ‘gods’ from beyond. Drawing power from their worship, they also serve as stewards to horrible beings that awaken and try to come into this world.
