Nothing More Deceptive Than an Obvious Fact
611 AU, Urgag (8th day) in the Third Galend of Ebrild (day 173 of the year, 5th day of Wand in the month of the Horse, Dragon Isles calendar)
After meeting outside of the College of Light the adventurers quickly made their way to the northern gate and rode off into the waning light of the day. They continued on into the night and early the next morning arrived in the village of Bercombe. They spoke briefly with several people and found a tavern to have something to eat. They heard that a day or so ago two men rode through but were very gruff. They were told that the men continued north on the road to Boroughton.
Once they had completed their meal they continue to ride hoping to catch up to these men. After passing through Braedon, where they had another meal and heard that the men they were following had been here just yesterday they continued to ride on into the night. The long hours on horseback and the sparse sleep were begining to wear on the adventurers. But also they noticed lights off in the woods. They stopped, this was around midnight, and several attempts were made to reconnoiterer the lights. The results were confusing and eventually Uroet was able to hear words of prayers. These were different from what he was familiar with but similar to those used in his religion.
They group then continued off down the road and arrived in Boroughton shortly after dawn. Gwen and Uroet went to the church while the balance of the team went to the local inn to see if the men had stayed there. The inn keeper informed them the the very rude men had left the day before and 'good riddance to them'. Meanwhile Gwen had found the local priest in a state of shock because the holy relic was missing.
After some questioning of the locals the team decided the men had continued on the road towards Caer Stanmore. They road on without sleep and followed the trail until the next morning, through Caer Stanmore, Malden and eventually to Caer Skagness. Arriving in the Caer only a couple hours after dawn. The guard questioned them and suggested the local inn may be where the men would be. Unfortunately when they arrived at the inn the inn keeper told the adventurers that the men had left just before dawn. After questioning the local guards and an audience with the local B'rant they had an agreement by the B'rant to provide aid. The group now including 4 horsemen pursued the two men on the road to Kilead a frontier village just north of Caer Skegness. Upon arriving at the village they were told that the two men had continued on into the wilderness north of the village and towards the Jars forest.
The group then continued to follow the men until they reached the edge and then on into the forest. Uroet was able to continue tracking but with the sleepless nights they eventually had to call a stop and sleep for some time before continuing on into the forest. It was at this point that the horsemen had to request that they return to Caer Skegness. They offered to take the adventurers horses as well and the offer was reluctantly accepted.
The team continued to pursue believing at more than one point that they had seen their quarry. As the days of chase continued the team grew anxious. One morning as they broke camp Llied noticed a pair of Gar Marches Lions on a ridge, blocking their path towards their adversaries. Gwyn trying to scare the lions cast a spell of Air bolt. The sound cracked through the forest and Uerot noticed a telltale of someone hiding in the bushes.
He very successfully used his Forester's Stealth to sneak up on the person hiding in the bushes but so too did his partner. The group then found themselves surrounded by Tylwyth and with Uerot being asked to lower his bow, but in a language he barely understood. It was Gwyn who recognized the language as a dialect of Tylwyth but not the Tylwyth Du.
After some lengthy conversations and Uerot eventually making a prayer to Galeton the Tylwyth calmed down and lowered their bows. More conversation and it was found that the Tylwyth was concerned the group were also associated with the two ahead of them. Once the Tylwyth were convinced the team was trying to bring the others to justice they suggested they work together.
As the days of chase continued the team continued to speak with the Tylwyth and Gwyn eventually became convinced that this group had been separated from 'civilization' and maybe a lost city or something similar.
After several days the group then came upon an area of corruption in the forest. The Tylwyth refused to continue but also bid the team best of luck. Continuing through the area of corruption several interesting aspects of the area began to make some sense to Gwyn. However several of the team began to become sick. Luckily they exited the area and were able to continue in pursuit of the two criminals.
Eventually the team and the criminals reached the shore of the Mil estuary not far from the Stag Barrows. The criminals were is sight but still a mile ahead. The team picked up the pace despite some members not feeling well. The criminals noticed they close pursuit and also picked up their pace.
A river crossing would prove to be the only time when they got within bow shot. Uerot was able to stick one blow but at that distance it was not truly a deadly blow. The criminals continued on their way, with the adventurers actually having a more difficult crossing.
The chase ended at the mouth of the Mil river when the criminals were seen to have found a boat and two more people who helped them cross the river and finally evade capture.
Defeated in this chase, the team then decided to continue up river to Caer Militas and report back to the Archibishop. The Archbishop was at first confused but then understood what had transpired. He encouraged them to continue on their way to Darranmax and receive the Holy Revoron's blessing to secure the balance of the beads of the Rosary.
