The Kylorun Church
Originally Kylor was one of the Old Gods of the north, which were taken with the Roln as they travelled south and settled central Eorin. Over time he became the primary focus of their faith, with their religion shifting towards a dualism that is focused on the relationship between day and night and the light fighting against the dark.
Kylor is said to be a celestial warrior and represents light, day, fire, life, the sky, and the sun. He is locked in an eternal battle with a nameless god of darkness, or at least it was forbidden to write the name down so it has been lost, who seeks to smother the world and end all life. The two moons, Pren and Sela, are Kylor's champions who battle the darkness while he rests, holding it at bay until he has the strength to fight it once again. The darkness is believed to be a universal force and therefore much stronger than Kylor, and it is his on-going fight against a superior power despite the inevitability of defeat that the faith centers around.
It's not known exactly when the Kylorun Faith started but many scholars put it down as the construction of the Solar Meridian, a great circlet of stone now enclosed by the Cathedral of the Holy Radiance, at the end of the 2nd century 3E. Situated in the center of the city of Mistfall, the structure was the first shrine built solely in dedication to Kylor and it was from there that the faith spread across the region.
The Kylorun Church is now the official religion of nearly all human lands in Eorin, with the worship of the Old Gods remaining in only a few of the holds of Elderen. However, the worship of the elven gods among the commoners has increased to the point that the Church has accepted their existence, allowing secondary dedication to them but forbidding their worship in any official churches or cathedrals.
