The Dusarnti
The Dusarnti are the familial pantheon of gods worshipped by the dwarves and halflings. They believe that rather than being almighty overseers and judges, their gods are not concerned with the actions of mortals. They believe the gods are beings just like them but with great power and connected to the world, caring and governing over their individual dominions. Some reside in the great mountains that sprout out from the earth; some glide through waters of the rushing rivers; some roam the forests and plains of the lands. Their strength and powers are linked to their territory - as the land and creatures flourish, so do they. As long as the balance is maintained and their dominions are not threatened, why would the gods care what mortals do?
A Divine Family
Many centuries ago, Moradin the Creator crafted the world. He pulled the earth up to form the fields and the mountains and when the rain fell, the water ran down the slopes into the depressions left behind, creating the oceans. Where the water and the sky touched Berronar arose, formed from the swirling mist. Moradin took her as his wife and together they had nine sons and two daughters. Moradin showed them the lands that he had created, telling them to choose their own dominion under him.
His oldest, Abbathor, saw the towering Arau Mountains reaching for the skies and laid his claim. His second son, Gulthyn, picked the great Erwick River, whose many branches travelled from one side of the world to the other. His third son, Mathammor, walked through the Muted Forest and watched the beasts as they ran amongst the giant thurhath trees, and choose it for himself. One by one his children found their place in his creation, except for his four youngest sons.
With each wanting the swathe of land that lay between the Arau and Gildur Mountains, and neither of the four sons willing to drop their claim, violence soon broke out amongst them. The four gods fought for days, pummelling with fists, feet, trees ,and boulders, and even throwing mountains at one another; it was during the clash that the Erwick River was torn in half and the island of Vloihsh was formed from a thrown mountain. On the fifth day, the youngest brother, Uhklar, was killed. In his rage, Moradin banished the other three sons, each sent in a different direction from the others. Dugmaren wandered north, finding a new home amongst the chaotic and wild plains; Dumathoin headed south, crossing over the water to Ebaril where he waited in the Skald Mountains until his family finally forgave him; and Kurtulmak, who had dealt the fateful blow, set sail across the ocean into the unknown never to be seen again.
