Wood Elf
The Wild Children of the Fey
Basic Information
Built more lithely and dexterous than their high elf forefathers, smaller and more compact than their Eladrin cousins, wood elves are humanoid in morphology, but shorter and lithe in stature, appearing as almost waif-like human teenagers if their ears are covered or disguised.
The species reproduces as most humanoids do, through physical copulation and the mixing of genetic material.
Elves tend to have a similar age from childhood to maturity that humans do, going from infant to a passable adult sentient in around 20 years. However, this is where the gift of the elves manifests, and from their second decade to their one hundredth, they may age similar to that as a human for every decade alive, not becoming old and decrepit until late in their seven-hundredth years.
Wood Elves are built for the wild, forests and jungles are the most natural home to the Wood Elves across Kokintras. Even more urban Wood Elves, such as those in
The United Providences of Kirschdorf-Snaken , tend to live in cities where the forest and jungle are nearby, giving them that feeling of closeness to the wild.
Many urban Wood Elves will also maintain somewhat forested lots, with plenty of trees and gardens surrounding their homes.
Elves are omnivores, however, most elves and particularly wood elves favor vegetarian/veganism as a dietary lifestyle.
Additional Information
Like all elves, Wood Elves possess an incremental amount of dark vision, usually up to around 60ft where low light and no light appear clearer to them.
Wood Elves tend to be more introspective and understanding of races and of causation and effect.
Wood Elves are disposed to survive in a natural environment and have an easier time blending in with even moderate amounts of natural cover, such as rain and snowfall, foliage, and fog.
Civilization and Culture
Wood Elves depend on a complex system of patronyms and matronyms to build upon their names. Generally they also will have honorific names that no one goes by except in legal documents.
The Wood Elves will typically format a name as:
>Honorific< >Chosen Name< >Mother's Surname< y >Father's Surname<
so an elf named
Juan Lopez Maderna y de la Costa would be of his father's de la Costa family, his mother would be from the Mederna family, and he would introduce himself informally as "Lopez de la Costa" instead of his lengthy formal name.
Scientific Name
Dryadalis Lucus
