Cicerin
"Day 622,
I believe I have finally found a Cicerin, either that or it has found me. I have been in the depths of this forest for six hundred days looking for this illusive being as a part of my training under my mentor is to bond with a rare magical being. I have seen flashes of a dark tail with gold markings and brightly colored wings. But they never stay in sight long and seem to be drawing me further into the forest. I hope not to lose them in these trees, the branches overhead seem dense and twisting but enough room still for a Lhotlan to fly with ease so I suppose even the Cicerin would be able to. I can only hope that it isn't debating making me its next meal as the last time I saw another person was five hundred and fifty days past."
"Day 642 I Think....
Time is quite of in these woods. I know for sure that the being I am following is a Cicerin at this point. It chased off some other odd creature that definitely was going to make me its meal. I just wish I knew where it was taking me. Or its name. The need for food stopped I think three days ago along with the need for water. Which is lucky as I have a feeling I may no longer be in the mortal realms and Legend has it if you eat or drink while in the Fae wilds you are cursed to stay there forever and I don't want to test that theory. Hopefully this journey will end soon."
"Day 1200,
I woke up outside the woods near where I entered them and upon my chest lay a small Cicerin cub snuggled into my shirt purring. I don't remember the last seemingly 558 days however each day is marked out in my journal. I know now for sure I was lead into the Fae wilds and since I remember who I am it makes sense to me that I retained my name and have been chosen by this cubs mother. I will have to read those entries later but for now I must return to my mentor and care for my new cub familiar. I don't know what I would do if harm befell the cub. I feel very, very protective of him. He is now my companion Kimba until the end of both our days.
Basic Information
Anatomy
These beings appear to be a large cat either panther or tiger with bright markings and feathered wings. Typically in the mortal realms the they will be panthers with gold markings or black tigers with blue markings.
However in the Fae Wilds you may run into a white tiger with blue markings and insect like antenna upon the head. While in the Under-dark they tend to be panthers with bat like wings instead of feathered wings.
Genetics and Reproduction
Cicerin tend to be rather solitary sharing their territory with only one other Cicerin at a time which is always their life mate. Cicerin tend to be monogamous and will often stay with the same mate for their entire life. However should that mate die they may seek out a new mate within the next one to two years in the early spring for courting. If a Cicerin bonds with a humanoid they will usually claim a smaller territory in the closest forest or if there is not a near by forest they will claim a wider area of fields and rely more so on hunting from the air. With these Cicerin that may be willing to share their territory with up to five other Cicerin but will not partner with another unless that Cicerin is bonded to the same humanoid and will instead mate with whichever male or female is most suitable at the time if there happens to be one available.
A female Cicerin may have an average of 2-4 cubs per litter which they will give birth to after a gestation of three and a half to four months. They may have a max of six cubs in a litter however it is common for one or more of the cubs in a litter of six to be rather sickly or stillborn.
Growth Rate & Stages
A Cicerin is born with its eyes closed in a den created by the mother either in the roots of trees or in a hollow high in the branches and their eyes will remain closed for 4 to 9 days. These beings are born completely black or white however like with a Dalmatian each cubs marking are unique and develop roughly 10 days after birth.
At roughly three months of age they start to learn to fly and follow their mother or father on hunts. By a year old they can usually fend for themselves but will often stay with their parents for 18 - 24 months often helping to provide for their siblings until they leave to find their own territory and mate.
Unless they bond with a humanoid they will often live for 50 - 60 years often living longer if bonded to and cared for properly by a humanoid. Should a Humanoid be chosen to receive a Cicerin cub by the cubs mother they will generally be gifted the cub at around 4 months of age ensuring a strong and healthy bond between the cub and the Humanoid. This does however mean that the bonded Humanoid must help the cub learn to hunt and fly. Though occasionally an Adult Cicerin will claim a Humanoid. No matter the age of the bonded creature the bond will be rather strong and threatening their bonded Humanoid is often a grave mistake.
Ecology and Habitats
Cicerin typically live in and thrive in denser older forests or deep mountain caverns where they have the ability to blend into the landscape and fly or glide between high branches or ledges to hunt. They will most often choose a large hole in a tree or a space in tangled roots as their den. However those that live in the Under-dark will actually dig out or claim a small cave as a den making sure that it is high on a wall of a cavern.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Cicerin are obligate carnivores and will typically take down one to two large kills a week and eat through them averaging 225 to 450 bounds of meat a week depending on territory and whether or not they spend more time flying over gliding.
