Endrun
The World's Womb
"The Land has Broken, but the Divine's Grace will never Leave us."
Endrun was created following the Moonfall Cataclysm, when the world broke apart. The largest continent remaining, and with the largest population of surviving Giants, Endrun became the haven for the Divine's servants as they recovered from the global catastrophe. With the Divine Forges intact, in time the Giants could continue their work and rebuild from the loss of mortal life. Yet when those that would become Undivine broke their own Laws and meddled with mortal affairs, using the Forges to create an army against the surviving dragons, the Divines put forth the Evolutionary Decree and brought an end to the use of the Divine Forges for their original purpose: creating life. To protect their servants as they recovered, and to cut off access to the Forges, the Divines shrouded the continent in a magical haze, ensuring it would exist unnoticed to the outside world for as long as their protection remained. For several centuries, life inside and out of Endrun progressed, as mortals began to rise in power once the primordial conflicts between Divine and Titan had ceased. Upon the continent, the giants built themselves a new home, seeking a new purpose beyond safeguarding the sealed Forges they once manned. Besides them, mortals grew and advanced, learning how to grasp at magic and build a society. The elven nation of Sin'kalidar grew to inhabit much of the land, while Avian society claimed the mountains to the north. Goliaths, once serving in a similar role to the giants as the latter served to the Divines, now had the chance to develop their own culture, and many discussed how they should progress and whether how they would handle the perception giants held over their race. While not a wholly peaceful land, for a time Endrun was able to experience new growth and a calmer existence than its creation had been, isolated from the world around it, and seemingly content to remain that way. Things began to change during the Elemental Conflict, an event occuring wholly on a distant land but with ramifications that shook the entire world. As the prisons that held the Titans were opened, releasing creatures of incredible elemental might, leylines that had rigidly criss-crossed the world were strained and began to change, splitting apart or forming new connections seemingly at random. When the Titan of Chaos emerged in the final days of the Conflict, the planet reeled and magic across the globe quaked. A storm of unleashed magic raged across the world, and upon reaching Endrun shattered the divine protections placed around it. Things calmed once the Titan was resealed, but Endrun had already been affected and the ward that both protected and isolated them could not be easily remade. A few short years later, explorers from Corindar were caught amidst a storm and traveled much farther than they had anticipated, and landed upon the shores of a previously undiscovered land. Knowing they would return and spread word of their land, the denizens of Endrun now face a grave choice: to maintain centuries of isolation and prevent the arrival of these new "pioneers", or to do the one thing Endrun has never excelled at and adapt to the new world?
The Land and its People
"Here we Remain, Protected. The World may Break, but Endrun Remains."
Endrun is a vast continent, formed after the Moonfall Cataclysm broke the supercontinent into pieces. Endrun remains the largest landmass since that time, and has a variety of climate zones that break up its geography. Furthermore, after the Evolutionary Decree denied them their role as life-builders via the Divine Forges, many giants took to occupying themselves by altering the landscape they lived in, with the Fire Giants being the most prolific with this act.
Frozen Crown
The Frozen Crown is a harsh landscape, containing the northern region of the mountain range that spreads into the Spine of the World, and is well suited to the Frost Giants that call it home. The Crown exists far enough north to experience winter almost year-round, and the creatures that reside amongst the mountain peaks can be quite fearsome. Despite the harsh climate and dangers however, the Frozen Crown is also a source of nourishment for the Highlands below it, as the runoff from the mountains feeds into rivers and lakes to the south. Attributed to the work of the giants themselves, this water is exceptionally pure and known to resist impurities even after collecting in lakes. While the beasts and giants of the Highlands often live according to the 'rule of the jungle', the larger sources of clean water are almost always treated as neutral ground, even among the more primal of creatures.Rolling Highlands
Occupying much of the northern region of Endrun, the Hill Giants live their lives following the migratory patterns of the massive herd creatures that call the Rolling Highlands home. The land here remains wild and untamed, feeding beasts that have existed since before the Cataclysm shook the world and allowing new species to flourish or die as the land decrees. The Hill Giants live in harmony with nature around them, even if that nature is a violent one. To live within the Highlands is to constantly fight for survival against tooth and claw, a lifestyle the giants relish and thrive in as they supply the greatest source of meat and hide to the other peoples of Endrun.Spine of the World
The southern region of the mountain range that spreads into the Frozen Crown, the peaks of the Spine tend to be shorter overall than their northern brethren. The Spine is the home of both the Avian Roosts and to the Fire Giants of Entoran. The two species have the semblance of a symbiotic relationship, with the giants interested in what the land yields to their miners and the Avains keeping to the peaks and air above, but these two have come to blows over perceived territory many times over the years. Both have also shaped the land to their liking, with the Avians creating the vast city of Kelekemoleke spanning across multiple mountain peaks and joined by ropes and bridges, and the giants have carved Entoran out of the land itself to suit their needs. The Shaderoot
Between the open hills of the Highlands and the verdant fields of the Sin'kalidari lands lies a darkened, desolate blot upon the beauty of Endrun. The Shaderoot is a corrupted forest shrouded in darkness pouring from the Shadowlands, the prison of an Undivine. After the servants of the Dark Empress tore apart a rift between Endrun and her desolate kingdom, the resulting energy marred the forest and altered all life living within it. While attempts have been made to seal the rift and slow the change, a permanent fix for the Shaderoot has yet to be discovered, and the corruption continues to creep outwards from its heart. Despite the altered nature of this forest, many people and creatures have also grown with the new landscape, and the growth has given enlightening insights into the matter of evolution and adaptation. The city of Hush remains a beacon of safety within the forest, encouraging the research of these changes to better understand the world around them.Sin'kalidar
The lands of the Sin'kalidari have long been a bountiful region that proved able to support the growing population of elves that claimed it as their home. The fields are well suited for cultivation, and the forests grow tall and dense, their bounty ripe for the harvesting. Growing around such bounty, the Sin'kalidari elves were able to build a magnificent city for their capital, dedicating it to the Divines that had blessed their lands so long ago. Located at the heart of the continent, E'mlion has become a powerful city, well-defended and conveniently located to act as a hub between the scattered peoples of the continent.Gaelstrum // The Storm Archipelago
Gaelstrum, or the Storm Archipelago in Common, is the manifestation of a powerful, constant storm that has drawn a series of floating islands into its wake, tossing them around to crash into each other as the storm ever rages on. Few people call this hostile region home, save for the Storm Giants living within the protected mountain of Gaeldor, the ever mobile eye of the storm.Sunken Crater
South of Sinkalidar and at the foot of the Spine of the World, the ground opens up to a large rainforest teeming with life. When the world was broken, the southern region of Endrun collapsed and fell into itself, barely kept dry by massive cliffs that rise up around the entirety of the crater. A single mar amidst the lush nature within the Crater, the Open Maw exists in the heart of the region as a rift torn open to the Endless Abyss from the time of the Undivine's Fall. Creatures from the Abyss frequently slip into Endrun via this rift, and the source of insane corruption affects the land around it, but for centuries the Stone Giants have stood as stalwart defenders against the Abyssal spread. This task has grown more difficult over time, especially as their consistent proximity has afflicted much of their population with a deep madness, and their own allies, the other giant clans, seek to capture and seal them away until a cure can be found. With the Stone Giants dwindling in number, the Maw puts more pressure on the world around it, and its corruption slowly spreads out through the Crater, causing cascading changes that threaten to affect the entire continent, if not the world. The Moonfall Cataclysm
This event marked the end of a conflict that had raged across the world of Enturon since the Divines first set their sights on the planet. The Dominion War was fought by the giants, servants to the Divines seeking to claim this world, and the dragons, a race born from the remnants of power the Elemental Titans could force between the bars of their prison. The conflict ended when the dragons struck out and killed one of the Divines and shattered their domain: one of the twin moons of Enturon. The broken celestial body rained down upon the planet, destroying the landscape and shattering the super-continent into pieces, and ending much of the work the Divines and their servants had done to create life upon the world. No Cloud Giants?
The eagle-eyed reader might notice that of all the types of giants listed in The Land And Its People, there was one type of giant entirely absent from the lands of Endrun. This is intentional, as that section talks specifically of the land and those that live upon it; the Cloud Giants do not. Instead, through a great feat of magic, they carved out a portion of Endrun and lifted it to the sky, wreathing it in clouds and setting it adrift above the land itself. Naming their home Alcidrun, their creation is in constant motion, moving along as the wind wills it, and therefore does not exist "on" Endrun. The semi-nomadic giants stroll across the skies, often coming into conflict with the Avians when they pass by, but largely undisturbed by and uninterested in the affairs of Endrun and its people.Remove these ads.
