Roleplaying House Rules
“Pray to Krom”
- A player can make a call to prayer from their “God” once per session.
- NOTE: I do mean prayer, in the form of addressing a higher power in character. To do so:
- The player will state what they are praying for (Example: I want to find the bad guys, I want to be stronger, etc. as a prayer to the deity they are asking for help from.) in the form of a prayer (addressed to their god/goddess), out loud.
- The player will roll d100.
- The DM will roll d100.
- If the two numbers match, the prayer will be granted in a way that is close to what the player wanted. (Though maybe not how…DM’s discretion)
- If the two numbers are within 10 of each other, it may be partially granted.
- If they are not even close, the gods haven’t heard and do not care. They say “to hell with you!”
Short Rest:
- Max of 3 per day, but only 10 minutes.
Limited Quantities.
- Whenever you use something that has limited quantities (Arrows, charges on a magical item, rations, etc.) there will be a starting dice.
- Each use, you will roll the dice, and on a 1, you will move downward to the next dice.
- EXAMPLE: You fire an arrow. You roll a 1d20 for “inventory” and if you roll a 1, you move down to rolling a 1d12 when you fire. If not, then you stay with a 1d20.
- Order of progression: 1d20, 1d12, 1d10, 1d8, 1d6, 1d4.
- Once you roll a 1 on a d4 you are considered to have used the last of the item and are "Out of Stock" until you can purchase more.
- For magical items, they will have a starting dice (1d8 or 1d12, etc) and you will continue downward. Once you roll a 1 on the 1d4, the device is considered to have used its last “charge”. Follow the rules for said device.
- For purchasable consumable goods, the dice resets when you buy more. For instance, 1d20 arrows may be 10GP, or you could by 1d12 for 8. Etc. DM will provide price when needed.
Intent and Technique
- When you are doing something, I want to know what you are trying to accomplish and how you are doing it. For instance, say you are trying to get in to see the king, and are trying to convince the guards to let you by. Your intent is to get to the king, but how are you trying to convince the guard to let you by? Do you use a bribe, threaten him with personal injury, point out that the Prince would not stand for him holding up such an important guest, what? This makes it so you are using the right skill checks (if any) and can change to outcome. A guard might get angry or belligerent because of a failed INTIMIDATION check, but laugh in your face at a failed PERSUASION check. This aids in roleplaying depth and builds a much more colorful story.
- I will routinely award +1/+2/+3 to rolls or Advantage/+1 & Advantage/+2 and Advantage for well described and role-played descriptions of attacks or actions. While I won’t penalize not role-playing, I will reward it.
Notes from to and from the DM
- If you want to do something that you don’t want the other party members to know about, write it on the paper provided (when it is) and I will write an answer in response. You choose if you want to share the information.
- Likewise, I may write things to you that you may share, or not share depending on your whims. I leave it up to you.
