Asgard

I will tell you of the realm of the Aesir, called Asgard.   One of the nine realms created by Odin All-Father when he created the universe, Asgard is the home of the Aesir and is protected by walls so thick and high that no giant can breach them.   The entrance to the realm of Asgard is only via the Bifrost or "Rainbow Bridge" that connects the world to Asgard and is guarded by the Aesir Heimdall.   Thor dwells also in Asgard, in a place known as Thrudvangar and his main hall was called Bilskirnir, the largest building every erected. Bilskirnir has 540 apartments and it is here that Thor resides with his wife Sif and their children.   Balder lives in Breidablik, a gleaming hall where Balder holds court.   Odin dwelles in the great hall was called Valaskjalf, where his great throne Hlidskjalf resides. The roof of Valaskjalf was made out of silver. It is here that Odin holds court and judges the fates of men and gods.   The best-known of Odin's halls is that of Valhalla. Valhalla is the hall where the slain warriors reside after falling in battles. While Odin is seated in the hall of Valhalla, he is known as by the name Val-father, meaning the "Father of the Slain".   This the realm of the Aesir, be they praised.
