Prone

A prone creature is lying on the ground, making them easier to strike in melee but harder to hit with ranged attacks. While prone, a creature suffers a –1 success penalty to melee attack rolls, physical skill checks, and spellcasting checks. Ranged attack rolls suffer a –2 success penalty and cannot deal critical damage, except when using weapons governed by the Crossbow skill or any skill under Firearms. A prone creature gains 1 automatic dodge success against ranged attacks but loses 1 dodge success against melee attacks.   Movement while prone is reduced to one-quarter of normal speed, and the creature cannot take a 1-meter step. Standing up is a partial action that provokes reactionary strikes from creatures whose zone of control the prone creature occupies and triggers overwatch from enemies within close range.
