The Wandering Monk
I grew up without my elf father and grew up in a human village together with my human mother. Unfortunately, my mother died when I was young, and I became a heavily bullied orphan as the only half-elf in the village. My mother never spoke about my father, neither to me nor to other villagers. The only thing I have of him is a seemingly magical compass, which does not point north.
I left the village without notice when I was old enough to leave and take care of myself. I followed the magical compass for more than a year, trying to find my father's village to finally find acceptance. I ended up almost dying multiple times as an inexperienced youngster. Until one time I found a seemingly abandoned monastery in the middle of a densely forrested valley. Suddenly an old unarmed Dragonborn appeared and we started to fight. The fight didn't last long, as even with my weapons I was overthrown within minutes.
However, the Dragonborn did not kill me and turned out to be the only monk left in the monastery. He decided to take me as his last pupil and the following 5 years he taught me to speak Draconic and helped me to become a Monk. The monastery was hidden in the middle of nature, so that is also where I learned to navigate, hunt, and handle animals.
After 5 years I continued my quest looking for my father's village. Now better aware of all the dangers, I try to stick more to other people presenting myself as a navigator, but secretly always trying to continue into the direction of my compass, even if that is not the group's destination.
