Treaty of Torrindeep

also known as the Coalition of Councils

Purpose

End the wars between the city states of the Meadow vale, bringing peace and cooperation between them.

Document Structure

Caveats

Requirements were set within the treaty, detailing what would be necessary before one or more of the cities could take military action against another of the coalition. These were exploited by the second Guildmaster, a criminal that took control over the city of Odiso in the year 10 B.F. and ruled it at the head of their crime syndicate for 4 years before the other cities had enough cause to meet the caveats and declare war.

Historical Details

History

For decades, the various cities in southern Ylirn had been in a state of constant strife with each other, resulting in numerous small and larger battles and wars. Eventually cooler heads prevailed, and the councils of the three most northern cities, Irveln, Brynn and Torindach, came together on an island in lake Torrindeep, under the neutral supervision of The Bronze Knights to negotiate and sign a treaty of peace and mutual defense, forming a loose coalition. A yearly summit was agreed upon, to reaffirm the treaty and possibly expand it.

The southern cities of Odiso and Feorfenn were invited, but declined to be present at these negotiations, believing them to be a waste of time. It was a surprise to the councils of these cities when a treaty did come from the discussions, and the next year both were represented in Brynn and joined the coalition, having no desire to stand alone against the combined power of the others.

This treaty effectively ended armed conflict between the cities, and in the resulting relative peace more and more of the land was exploited and the cities continued to grow in size. Throughout the years, additional clauses were added to the treaty, mostly governing trade between the cities, until a true coalition had developed.

53 years after its signing, Rouland Agroven of Feorfenn launched his campaign to truly unite the cities into a kingdom. Some resisted, but within four years he had brought all cities and surrounding noble families to heel with a combination of economic pressure, alliances and only a handful of military actions. The Treaty of Torrindeep was the foundation upon which he then formed his Kingdom of Fennvale, later known as the Agroven kingdom.
