The oldest of professional soldiers in Belkar, the Gemcutter axman started as typical miners for House Emberforge . However delving deep enough and wide enough, it soon became clear there are enough beasts in the deep that miners needed to be trained in combat. Over time some of these miners became better soldiers than miners, and traded in their leather aprons and pick axes for heavy splint mail and large axes.

Their name drives from the pointed gems they used to mine, and this is reflected in their unusual pointed axes. Those who wield them swear that they piece plate better than any other, but the use of these axes is limited only to these professional bodyguards
